The 8th grade art class recently finished our annual PBL that revolves around working collaboratively with our community and our peers to create and display artwork for our local Persimmon Festival. They began by creating lessons to teach each class that focused on Mitchell or the festival. They were then assigned a 6th grade class period, where they came in and instructed the entirety of the project the planned and prepared. After the 6th graders were finished, the 8th graders learned about curating and preparing work to be "gallery ready" and matted the projects to be ready for display. We concluded our PBL last Friday by walking down to Insights Optical where they hung the projects that resulted from their lessons. This PBL was another huge success, but wouldn't be possible without the involvement of our community partners!

We’ve had a busy start to the year! Both 6th and 8th grade art students have been working so hard on their art projects.

💙The 6th grade classes have completed blind continuous line contour portraits, Bauhaus inspired geometric collages, and color theory agamographs.

💛Our 8th grade has finished their organic v. geometric shape studies, and have currently been juggling between grid drawings with emphasis and working on our annual festival PBL.

💙Mrs. Martin’s class has been knocking out projects left and right too! This one of a kind ‘crew’ has already started their themed projects for the art show this year! On top of all this, so many of these kids have been branching out of their comfort zones trying many things that are new or may feel uncomfortable- and that’s a huge win!

I’m so proud of all the hard work coming from our students, and we are only a month into the semester!

It’s that time of year again!
I am in need of around 4-5 student volunteers (current 8th graders and older) to help with face painting for Hoosier Upland’s Back to School Bash on July 23 in the expo hall at the fair grounds. We will be painting from 4-7 that evening, but helpers can expect to get there a little bit earlier and stay a little later than the time posted.
If your student can help out, please let me know!

I'm going to miss this wild group of kids. I know their futures' are so bright though. ✨ I hope they don't forget about that crazy lady art teacher, because she will not forget about them. 💙💛
