These 5th graders are working hard to make quality items for your families! All items will be under $5 and the funds will go back into our STEAM program!

Fifth grader, Daigen Martin, designed these keychains that were given to veterans that attended the Burris Elementary program on Friday.

The keychains were printed using our Glowforge and assembled in the lab. We are proud to be able to express our gratitude through making!

This week the Burris Elementary School teacher meeting was in the Collab Lab! The teachers were able to design and create something of their choosing. We had posters, stickers, Glowforge and 3-D printed items!

The best part?... We had a couple 5th graders in the lab TEACHING the teachers!

💙💛 The lab is busy!!

Kade, a 3rd grader at Burris, is the first elementary student to successfully design with Canva and create their own item using the Glowforge!

So, why is the Collab Lab a big deal?🤔

EQUITY, MAKER MINDSET,& EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS.

⚖️The lab will provide equity to our MCS elementary students by exposing them to tools and machines they might otherwise not have a chance to use. They will learn safety procedures and proper techniques.

💡In the lab, we use a maker mindset. This teaches students there isn’t “just one” way to solve things. Problem solving, troubleshooting and much more. Students will also have choice and voice over their learning. Students will get to be innovators creating unique designs. No cookie cutter projects here!

👩🏼‍🔧Lastly, the skills students will develop in the lab will help them obtain their best future. Communication, collaboration, critical thinking, perseverance, problem-solving, time management, integrity and the list goes on. These are skills that will help students in whatever future they choose.
