In 1865, two years after the Emancipation of Proclamation was signed, the news that slavery had ended reached the people of Texas. Today we commemorate that moment in history when enslaved African Americans got their freedom.

April 2nd, a day the world recognizes and promotes understanding and support for individuals with the diagnosis of autism. April is the month we bring awareness to the forefront of all the noise in the world.

For families, April is a month that they can feel seen and heard. Every other month of the year, autism remains a way of life. Autism is more than a diagnosis. Every diagnosis has a person trying to understand a world that isn’t always comfortable for them.

In April, the world promotes helping make this world more accessible, equal, and inclusive for our neurodiverse brothers and sisters. Let’s use April to learn and continue the spread of education into our communities every day and every month.
