Here’s something most parents don’t know before they start touring schools: the word “Montessori” was never trademarked. Maria Montessori’s own name went through real legal fights over who could use it-and courts ruled the term belongs to no one. Not AMI. Not any single school. No one.

Which means literally any school can put “Montessori” on the sign. No training required. No accountability to the method. No proof they actually do what the name promises.

So before you fall for a beautiful building or a warm smile at the front desk, ask the questions that actually matter:

→ Are your guides formally trained — and by whom?
→ Does your administrator hold Montessori credentials, or just the teaching staff?
→ What does an uninterrupted work cycle actually look like here?
→ Are classrooms truly mixed-age, or grouped by grade like a traditional school wearing a Montessori label?
→ Can I see the full set of materials in use, not just on a shelf?

In an authentic Montessori environment, you’ll see and experience these things daily — not just hear about them on a tour.
