Big news from Wildfire: we are officially TEFA approved!!!!
That means eligible Texas families can now use their Texas Education Freedom Account funding toward tuition at Wildfire Academy starting this fall. For many families, TEFA funding can cover most or all of the cost of a Wildfire education.
If you have been quietly wondering whether something different was possible for your child, this is your sign that the door just opened wider than ever before.
Wildfire is a Christian, learner-driven microschool in Missouri City, and part of the Acton Academy network. We serve learners ages 4 to 14 in a place where curiosity actually gets to lead.
If TEFA funding makes Wildfire possible for your family this year, we would love to meet you. Spots are limited and filling for fall.

Six weeks ago, Wildfire dove into marine biology, and today they got to see it all come to life. 🐠
For six weeks the learners studied fish and the ecosystems that hold them together, learned how coral reefs work and why the ocean's balance matters, and even dissected fish to understand what's happening under the surface.
So a capstone field trip to the Aquarium at Moody Gardens was the only way to finish it out. The whole school went together, watching sharks glide overhead and penguins waddle on rocks, pressed against the glass like everything they'd been learning had finally come alive in front of them.
This is what Acton learning looks like. Instead of memorizing facts to forget them later, our learners spend six weeks deep inside a subject, asking real questions and getting their hands in the work, until they can stand in front of the real thing and actually understand it in a way no textbook could ever teach.
Wildfire wasn't just visiting an aquarium today. They were finishing a chapter they wrote themselves.
Swipe all the way to the end to see what happens when a big seal swims by the learners. 🦭

At Wildfire Academy, learners are encouraged to ask questions, explore ideas, and take ownership of their education.
We believe meaningful learning happens when children are trusted with both freedom and responsibility while being supported by intentional guides along the way.
Curiosity sparks growth. Choice builds confidence.

At Wildfire, the lights went out on purpose. 🕯️
It was "Lights Off Day" for the Spark's alphabet countdown, the letter L. The Sparks built forts, grabbed flashlights, pulled books off the shelves, and read.
By choice.
Here's what we want every parent who's wondering about learner-driven education to see: structure doesn't have to look like rows of desks and silent hands. There's a different kind of structure happening in these photos.
The kind where a child gets to decide how to fall in love with reading. The kind where a flashlight and a fort make a shark book the most important thing in the world.
There was real passion in that room. Focus. Curiosity. The kind of learning that lights kids up from the inside because they got to choose how to meet it.
That's the balance we believe in at Wildfire. Real learning. Real structure. Real freedom inside it. ✨
Curious what learner-driven could look like for your child? The link in our bio has everything you need to start.

Today the Sparks talked about what it takes to grow and care for a garden. We then talked about how our brains can be like a garden as well, and how we need to take care of our “brain garden” to allow our brains to grow and get smarter!
They created pictures of what their gardens will look like fully grown and came up with a list of things our brain and body need!!
