Teens did great journalism in our Pow Wow Reporting Workshop last month. Some of their work was even published in the Flathead Reservation's Charkoosta News. Check out their photos here, with captions below.

The second-annual Montana Media Lab Pow Wow Reporting Workshop was a huge success!

Polson and Browning High School students joined us on the UM campus to cover the 57th Kyiyo Pow Wow. Students prepared to report by conducting on the street interviews and taking photos around campus. They toured the UM School of Journalism and learned about reporting on pow wows from local print, radio, broadcast, and photo journalists.

Workshop participants took all of their skills, pitched story angles, and headed to the pow wow to photograph and interview vendors, dancers, drummers, and more. Stay tuned to see the fabulous work they published!

Thank you to Bigfork High School's Norse Code student news organization for collaborating with the Media Lab! During a week-long audio reporting workshop, students covered how the fluctuating levels of Flathead Lake are affecting Bigfork locals, including business owners, local government leaders, and tribal water managers.

Listen to and read more about their story at the link in our bio!

Here are some highlights from our workshop in Bigfork this spring!

Our high school journalism students have been especially engaged with our community this year! In March, students partnered with Montana Media Lab to produce an audio documentary about the impacts of changing lake levels on our village. You may have heard it air on Montana Public Radio in early May. If not, you can find the link to the finished piece here:
