CS Porter Middle School

CS Porter Middle School C.S. Porter is one of three Missoula County Public Schools’ middle schools. We are the home of the Cougars and serve approximately 650 students.

Students from Franklin, Hawthorne, Jeannette Rankin, and Lowell Elementary Schools feed into Porter. Missoula County Public Schools has a mission to ensure that each student achieves his/her full and unique potential. Currently, the District has five main goals:

1. Achievement and graduation for all students regardless of their circumstances or abilities.
2. Refine and implement a quality supervision and evaluation program for all staff.
3. Define and Implement a quality professional development program that encompasses best practices and supports the needs of all staff.
4. Restructure the organization to become more efficient, effective and accountable to support the goals of the District.
5. Cultivate and enhance staff, student, parent, business and community involvement. Company Overview:

We are excited to announce our first CS Porter Book Club featuring Small Spaces by Katherine Arden! 🍂

Book club members will get to participate in our virtual author visit with Katherine Arden alongside our group discussions!

Spots are filling up fast, but we still have room! If your student is ready for a thrilling read, tell them to see the librarians today to sign up and grab a copy! 🏫📖

Our cornerstone event for The Month of Welcome, Stories of Home invites you to hear firsthand from refugees and immigrants about what “home” means to them.

At CS Porter we believe there’s no such thing as a kid who doesn’t like to read—they just haven’t found the right book yet!

We were thrilled to hear from Last Kids on Earth author Max Brallier, who echoed this exact message during his virutal author talk! He reminded our students that a great story is out there for everyone.
If your reader hasn’t found “their” book yet, tell them to ask their teachers and librarians 🏫👩‍🏫.

Micro School hit the trail again on Thursday! 🌲🧭

Our 6th graders headed over to the DNRC for a hands-on orienteering adventure. Using compasses, physical landmarks, and a series of clues, they put their navigation skills to the test to track down hidden treasure—including a bucket of slingshots! 🎯 Nothing beats learning out in the wild.

Hands-on, self-paced, and 100% engaged! 🚀🌱

This fall, Mr. Edge’s Career Exploratory students are diving into Paxton-Patterson STEM Labs. Working in small groups, students rotate through immersive, hands-on units—from testing soil chemical levels and analyzing rocket flight paths to practicing blood draws on a vet simulator and exploring culinary nutrition.

These Confident Learners and Skilled Collaborators are a perfect example of the MCPS Profile of a Graduate in action. Huge thanks to Mr. Edge for guiding our future scientists, engineers, and creators! 👨‍🏫✨
