SARC would like to extend our deepest sympathies to the Swaney family and to the entire community on the loss of Dr. Swaney. A note from her family:

"This morning Gyda Swaney passed away peacefully in her sleep, surrounded in love by her daughters, sisters, nieces and beloved yayas. She will have a traditional Salish wake and funeral."

Dr. Swaney was our mentor and a fierce advocate for social justice. We feel this loss deeply and hope to honor her by continuing in the footsteps of her life's work.

An opportunity to get involved with a small research project on campus for secondary survivors! (cw: mention of sexual assault)

--------------------------------------

SUPPORTING PARTNERS OF SEXUAL ASSAULT SURVIVORS

Supporting a loved one who was sexually assaulted can be both challenging and rewarding. I [Shawn] am looking to interview partners of survivors of sexual assault (either face to face or online). This interview will ask partners (spouses, significant others, etc.) how knowing about the survivor’s past experiences may have impacted their relationship and how they manage the survivor's story. This does not need to be a current relationship. The interview will NOT ask about past traumas, but WILL be focused on you and your experiences talking about the disclosure later.

The below link will take you to a Qualtrics survey where you can read through some of the questions and decide if you would like to participate in the interview.
- Participants must be 18 or older.
- The incident of sexual assault/sexual victimization has NOT occurred in the past year.

If you have questions, you can also email me at [email protected].

Thank you,
Shawn M. Deegan
Interpersonal Communication Masters Student at the University of Montana
