Awesome day spent in the Appalachian hardwoods....an expanding-gap irregular group shelterwood (or "Femelschlag", if you prefer) experiment is underway to better regenerate oak seedlings. Staff of the Forest Service's Southern Research Station and Pisgah National Forest are cooperating to pull this off. Do we need Femelschlag in Montana? Oh yes.

When the sowing gets tough, the tough get sowing! 6000 spruces sown in 6 hours this week.

At last, Memorial Greenhouse is coming out of its winter slumber! All sterilized (thanks Irina!) and ready for the sowing of the 2014 crop.

Rolling out the red carpet for the imminent arrival of the AFMP's newest addition, Justin Crotteau and his delightful wife Sarah. Justin will be pursuing his PhD while analyzing post-treatment forest fuel dynamics at Lubrecht Experimental Forest's Fire & Fire Surrogates study area.
