SSRL On April 25,2018 Kelly Dixon used Zoom, a robot, and artifacts from her laboratory to captivate middle school students in California. Five Palm Desert Charter Middle School classrooms participated in the 2 hour event. Students were presented with plenty of facts, stories, and cool artifacts from dig sites around Montana. The students were engaged and asked Dr. Dixon many great questions regarding her work. Kudos to the teachers and students at Palm Desert Charter Middle School.

The ZoomMobile can also be used alone in the instance all rooms with video and audio conference call computers are booked.

The Social Science Research Laboratory welcomed former SSRL RA Justin Denney in March as he gave a talk titled “Families, Communities, and Health Disparities: Implications of Contextual Incongruence” as part of the University of Montana Department of Sociology Speaker Series, presented in collaboration with The Institute of Health and Humanities, and sponsored by the Social Science Research Center.
Denney is currently an Associate Professor of Sociology and the Director of the Kinder Institute Urban Health Program at Rice University. Denney completed a master’s degree in Sociology from the University of Montana in 2002, and then went on to earn a Ph.D. At the University of Colorado.
His research at Rice University, in collaboration with colleagues in the Texas Medical Center, has allowed him to use large disparate datasets to study social inequalities and their impact on health outcomes.
