Start in Poplar. Finish with a UM business degree, without leaving home.

The University of Montana College of Business and Fort Peck Community College have signed a new 2+2 transfer agreement. Students who earn an associate degree in administration or an AAS in technology at Fort Peck can transfer straight into UM's Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a major in business management, and finish in two more years.

Our business management degree is offered fully online and asynchronously, so Fort Peck graduates can finish their degree from northeast Montana while they work. They can also join us in person in Missoula.

"This partnership means a student can start in Poplar and finish with a business degree without having to choose between their education and their community," said Suzanne Tilleman, Sprunk and Burnham Endowed Dean of the UM College of Business. "Our mission is to serve the entire state of Montana, and this collaboration with Fort Peck is vital to that goal."

94% of our alumni are working or in graduate school within six months of graduating.

Congratulations to College of Business alumna Tracy Wilson-Huggins on receiving the Denver Business Journal’s Outstanding Women in Business Lifetime Achievement Award!

Tracy has dedicated more than three decades to shaping the future of Denver, including 25 years as executive director of the Denver Urban Renewal Authority. During her tenure, she played a key role in some of the city’s most significant redevelopment efforts, helping guide projects that have transformed neighborhoods and strengthened Denver’s economic future.

Her leadership, vision and commitment to community are an incredible example of the impact our graduates can make in their communities and beyond.

We are proud to celebrate Tracy and this well-deserved recognition of an extraordinary career. Congratulations, Tracy!

We were pleased to welcome Professor Remus Brad of Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu (ULBS), Romania, to the University of Montana College of Business Aug. 28–Sept. 10.

During his visit, Professor Brad shared his expertise in artificial intelligence, computer vision, cybersecurity and networking with UM students, guest lecturing for both Management Information Systems and Computer Science courses. He also connected with local technology companies, creating opportunities for students and the broader Missoula tech community to engage with an international researcher and educator.

Dr. Brad’s presentations gave students a fascinating look at both the future and history of technology. In “Research Overview: AI, Computer Vision & Cybersecurity,” he explored six recent research projects from his lab at ULBS, covering topics ranging from AI-generated image forgery detection and medical image segmentation to hardware security and multilingual fake news detection.

His presentation “The ’80s in Romania” offered a more personal perspective, tracing his experiences growing up behind the Iron Curtain and the evolution of technology from cloned Sinclair ZX Spectrums and Commodore 64s to the birth of the web browser and Google. The presentation provided a unique reminder of just how rapidly technology has transformed our world.

We’re grateful to Dr. Brad for sharing his expertise, experiences and international perspective with our students and community. Opportunities like these help connect classroom learning with emerging technologies, global perspectives and the rapidly evolving world of business and technology.

The University of Montana College of Business is proud to recognize Mary ('90) and Joe ('89) Monahan as our 2026 Outstanding Alumni for their exceptional career achievements and unwavering support of UM students and programs.

Joe and Mary's ties to UM began early, as Joe was born in Missoula and spent his first years in married student housing on campus before his family returned to Butte, where Mary had moved from Chicago as a toddler. Joe earned a B.S. in Accounting from the College of Business in 1989 and built a career at Moss Adams, Nike, and Carhartt before becoming Chief Revenue Officer at gearUP Sports. Mary earned a B.A. in Education in 1990, taught kindergarten in Portland, later earned a degree from the Culinary Institute of America, and now runs her own food business. Married 36 years, they live near Portland, have three grown children, and return to Montana often.

Since graduating, they have given generously to UM. Joe served on the UM Foundation Board of Trustees from 2018 to 2024 and has hosted College of Business students on their Spring Break trip, first at Nike and now at gearUP. Mary serves on the College of Education Advisory Board. Together they have endowed scholarships in both colleges, plus a memorial scholarship in the School of Law honoring Joe's stepfather, R.D. Corette.
