Happy Monday everyone! This week, I'm presenting the last video of this year's program. It is from Justine and Brodie. They were both in Class B for this program and all improved their language prociency at the end of the program with an OPIc 1+. They had a lot of fun throughout the program and experienced local culture and food. Let's take a look at their journey through this short video!

UM Chinese PGO 24 09/30/2024

Hi everyone, this week, we have Marty and Ramsey! They are both going to school in Montana and already studied Chinese before going on the trip. Marty was in a non-PGO class as her level is higher than the existing PGO classes at NTU. She used her time well in Taipei, traveled to a lot of places, but more importantly her Chinese improved a lot at the end of the program and received a full level increase on her post OPI test! Ramsey studied Chinese at University of Montana and was placed into Class B for the program. He enjoyed the local food and drinks and improved his Chinese proficiency level at the end. He also visited several places in Taipei and other cities. I hope both of them had a great impression about Taiwan and will visit there again in the future!

Happy Friday and the long Labor day weekend!

This week, we have Kennedy and Ava! They were both in the Class A which was the absolute beginner class and knew almost nothing about Chinese language. They worked hard throughout the program and let me remind you that Chinese is one of the hardest languages for English speaker to learn. I know how they dealt with the obstacles and I know they had some down times due to the difficulty, but hey, they overcame all of them and eventually excelled with a full level increase in OPI test at the end earning themselves a velcro language patch!

Thank you both for your hard work and your dedication to the program! Hope you all enjoyed the summer in Taipei!

Taiwan 2024 08/26/2024

Happy Monday everyone!

This week, we have Richard Jung on the spot light. He is a 3-time PGO participant, did our program in 2022 and 2024 and with another institute for 2023. He has been to Taiwan for 3 straight years and know the place very well now. His home institution does not offer Chinese courses during the semester, so PGO program is the only chance that he can study Chinese and he has done a great job and had a lot of improvement by doing this program as while as his personal effort in learning Chinese during the semesters. Let's see what fun activities he did this time around!

study abroad in 台灣 🇹🇼 | University of Montana PGO 08/19/2024

Hey everyone! It's that time of the year again where we recap this year's PGO by watching student-made videos!

We had a very eventful year that we experienced earthquake and typhoon (we were lucky, they were not that bad!) and of course we had a lot of fun and saw many beautiful parts of Taiwan. It would take me a long time to write about our experience, so let's just watch the videos and relive the happy moments together!

Our 1st episode, I introduce Hannah Wang, Justine Lam, Kailee Tran and Ella Warkentine to you! Justine was in Class B, she had good understanding of Chinese language by growing up speaking the language at home, she also had good understanding of Chinese culture. She worked hard on improving her language proficiency and visited a lot of places across Taiwan. Ella and Kailee were both in Class C, they were both very active and like to explore mountains and nature. Kailee had to leave early for her training but she completed everything that program required before she left. She studied Chinese at her home university and had more improvement after this program, I was very surprised that she could talk about environmental topics for her final presentation! Ella was also a good student who has her own routine of learning a language. She was also very active and like to hike and run, good luck catching up with her on a mountain trail or a running track! Hannah is a heritage speaker who came into the program with OPI 2 already, she could live in a Chinese speaking society without difficulties. We placed her into a non-PGO class that matched her proficiency level. Becuase of her already excellent language proficiency, she was very helpful to others in the group and assisted others when I was not available. She worked hard and got the highest OPI score for this year's group. Well done!

Thank you all for a great summer and good luck with your future adventures!

Happy New Year! It is almost the deadline for this year's Project GO program. I would like to take this opportunity to provide updated information about this year's housing situation. We have partnered with a newly constructed hotel in Da'an district, it is convienently located in the central area of Taipei and close to NTU campus. There will be two people sharing a room, each room has tables, closets and other basic furnitures, refer to the pictures for more information.
In addition, there is shared laundry room, kitchen and dining area available for us to use. It should be a very comfortable place to rest and enjoy your stay in Taipei!
