Franke Global Leadership Initiative

Franke Global Leadership Initiative Cultivating the next generation of leaders who will help solve the world's most pressing problems

The Franke Global Leadership Initiative (GLI) at the University of Montana creates an opportunity for students to ask some of the most pressing questions of the 21st century while gaining the skills necessary to find the answers. GLI is a four-year program, open to all areas of academic study, where Fellows will engage in innovative seminars, tailored discussions on the Presidential Lectures and one-on-one contact with inspiring leaders. Fellows will participate in the University of Montana’s expansive selection of out-of-the-classroom learning experiences, while also gaining access to potential funding sources to help offset costs incurred from those experiences. The program will culminate in a capstone project, allowing Fellows to apply the knowledge they have acquired over the course of their studies.

A look back on our first GLI Leadership Retreat of the year!

Students spent the day learning more about their leadership styles, connecting with one another, and putting leadership skills into practice.

Thank you to Shannon Stober for leading us through a day of learning, reflection, and collaboration!

📌🐻Reminder: There’s another Leadership Retreat coming up on October 10, and we can’t wait to see you there!

Meet Delaney, our new GLI Social Media Intern!✨🐻

Delaney is a senior this fall studying Criminology and is a member of the Davidson Honors College. She is also pursuing certificates in The Franke Global Leadership Initiative, Pre-Law, and Politics, Philosophy & Law. After previously serving as GLI’s Summer Social Media Intern in 2025, she’s excited to be back creating content and sharing all things GLI!

This past spring, Delaney spent six months studying abroad in Malta as part of her GLI Beyond the Classroom experience. Her global theme is Inequality and Human Rights, and she is now beginning her GLI Capstone project!

Outside of creating social media content, Delaney is also a GLI Advocate, so if you ever want to chat about GLI, study abroad, school, or just have a question, reach out! She’s excited to get creative, connect with students, and share everything GLI has to offer this year.

A big thank you to Eva, our Summer Social Media Intern!

This summer, Eva brought creativity, new ideas, and plenty of fun to GLI. From creating content and trying new things to making connections and filming Reels with the GLI team, she has made a lasting impact on our program.

Eva says her biggest takeaway was learning just how meaningful GLI’s history is, and how the program can help pave the way for future experiences. Her advice to future interns? Have FUN! Try new things, don’t be afraid to fail, and become friends with everyone.

Thank you for all your hard work this summer, Eva! We’re so grateful for everything you brought to GLI and wish you the best in what’s ahead! 🌎🐻

Meet Bella, the newest addition to the GLI team! 🌎🌟

As a recent University of Montana graduate, Bella is returning to campus in a new capacity as GLI’s Program Analyst VISTA. She will focus on strengthening GLI’s recruitment and retention efforts, with an emphasis on supporting students from marginalized communities through partnerships with local nonprofits and community organizations. Bella will also support Franke Fellows by identifying opportunities for additional guidance and resources throughout their GLI journeys.
