Today is the last day to register for our October Intro to Aikido series.

The four-class series begins Monday, October 5 and is designed for complete beginners. You’ll get an introduction to basic movement, balance, partner practice, and the foundations of aikido in a welcoming, noncompetitive setting.

Class dates:
Oct. 5, Monday — Orientation 5:30–6:00 p.m. | Class 6:00–7:15 p.m.
Oct. 6, Tuesday — 6:45–8:00 p.m.
Oct. 12, Monday — 6:00–7:15 p.m.
Oct. 13, Tuesday — 6:45–8:00 p.m.

$70 for the four-class series | Ages 12+

Tonight we gathered for a memorial class for Warren Little. Friends came from near and far, some we hadn’t seen in many years, to practice Aikido together and share a few of the many Warren stories. His son also joined us for the evening, observing the class and sharing memories of his dad.

Just two days after his passing, a package arrived from Japan containing his old black belt. Many years ago, Warren had given the belt to a longtime friend and former member of our dojo when he received his shodan in Japan. Tonight Warren’s belt rested on the kamidana along with a photo of him and Saotome Sensei as we practiced in his memory.

Warren would have loved seeing everyone gathered together and practicing Aikido.

From all of us at Aikido of Missoula, and from the wider Aikido community represented on the mat tonight, journey well, Warren-san.

Warren Little, long term friend and supporter of Aikido Schools of Ueshiba and Montana Aikido, passed Saturday evening September 19, 2026, at his home in Missoula, Montana, a month before his 96th birthday.

Warren was a well known and well loved figure at Aikido camps and seminars in Montana and throughout the United States. He was dedicated to Saotome Sensei and ASU and was instrumental in setting up the organization in the early days of the D.C. dojo. He even took Sensei and Patty on their honeymoon in the backcountry of his beloved Montana, and loved to tell the story of the newlyweds' surprise when they found he had taken only one tent -- and insisted on sleeping in the middle!

Warren was devoted to furthering Aikido in Montana, and worked assiduously over years to bring quality instruction to his hometown of Missoula. The door to his second floor studio was an image of O Sensei in etched glass. He was a great supporter and long term member of Aikido of Missoula, the dojo that developed after my arrival in 1990, and appreciated the stability of its sustained offering. In his later years he became a member of Mountain West Aikido in Livingston/Billings.

Warren was known for his heart of gold, sense of humor and strong opinions, and leaves many warm and unique memories with all who knew him.

Aikido of Missoula will be holding a memorial class for Warren Little on Friday, September 25, 2026, from 5:30-7 pm.

Just off Higgins, upstairs in the historic Union Hall, there's a space where Missoulians have gathered to practice Aikido for more than 30 years.

The training is active and engaging. The atmosphere is respectful and welcoming.

Together we practice movement, balance, awareness, and the ability to stay centered even when life gets complicated.
