What's been happening lately in the VMT Program? 🐾

This past Wednesday, we had a fantastic time participating in Day 2 of the 2026 4-H Conference tabling event! Dr. Kohler and Dr. Jackson enjoyed meeting and talking with high school students interested in pursuing careers in veterinary medicine. It was a fun, educational, and rewarding experience, and loved having the opportunity to encourage the next generation of veterinary professionals. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table, we enjoyed meeting you and learning about your future goals!

Continuing our Senior Spotlight series for our Veterinary Medical Technology students, we are excited to feature Maggie Clark from Neoga, Illinois!

We asked her a few questions about her experience in the MSU VMT Program and her plans for the future:

🩺 What is your area of interest in veterinary medicine?
I am particularly interested in small animal ER and ICU medicine.

🐾 What was your favorite experience in the MSU VMT Program?
My favorite experience was my ER/ICU and small animal internal medicine rotations. I loved working alongside the technicians and veterinarians in these departments, and they taught me so much during the time I spent there.

📚 What is one important learning experience that will help you after graduation?
Learning to stay calm and adaptable in fast-paced situations will help me tremendously as I begin working in ER/ICU.

💬 What advice would you give to the junior class?
Ask questions and talk to people! Everyone in the hospital is so kind and willing to help. I’ve built great relationships with veterinary students and staff members throughout my senior year, and those connections have taught me so much.

🎯 What are your plans after graduation?
I will be staying at MSU CVM as an ER/ICU technician!

✨ What advice would you give to students considering applying to the program?
Don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone. This program teaches you so much and gives you incredible hands-on experience.

💗 Fun Fact: I was a competitive dancer for 15 years!
