There is a point in the dissertation process where more reading and more revising on your own is not what moves you forward. What moves you forward is having someone who knows exactly what your committee is looking for sit down with your actual work and tell you specifically what needs to change. That is Completion Coaching. Having chaired dissertations now published on ProQuest, I have been on both sides of this process. Limited spots remaining this month. Book a clarity call at dissertationgurus.com, or DM me the word COACHING on Facebook and I will send you the details directly.

Most students write their literature review like a list of what they read. They summarize one source, then the next, then the next, and wonder why their committee keeps asking them to rewrite it. A literature review is not a summary of sources. It is an argument built from sources, organized around themes that support your study. When you start with your themes and build from there, the review stops feeling random and starts having a clear purpose. Across traditional universities, online programs, and institutions serving international doctoral students, I see this same pattern: students narrating sources instead of synthesizing them. Your committee's Chapter 1 feedback is almost always about the same things: the problem statement does not argue, the purpose is too vague, the research questions are not aligned. My Chapter 1 Course addresses all of it, specifically, step by step, with the kind of guidance most doctoral programs never provide. I have been coaching students through Chapter 1 for more than sixteen years. Limited spots for new students this month. dissertationgurus.com, or DM me the word CHAPTER1 on Facebook and I will send you the details directly.

Every doctoral student wants to know how long Chapter 1 should be. My answer is always the same, and it is probably not what you are expecting. Chapter 1 does not have a required page count. It has required content: a problem statement, purpose statement, research questions, significance, background, theoretical framework, and definitions, at minimum. When all of those sections are fully developed and supported, the chapter is done. Page count follows content, not the other way around. Having worked with more than a hundred doctoral students over nearly seventeen years, the page count question almost always points to a deeper concern about whether the work is enough. Focus on the content. Are you that student? Run your problem statement through my free Problem Statement Evaluator at

Before you spend another six months on a chapter that keeps coming back, let's get specific about what is actually missing. Clarity Coaching is one focused session. We look at where you are, what your committee has said, and what needs to happen next, in plain language. I started helping doctoral students before I finished my own Ph.D. That was more than sixteen years ago. I know what committees are looking for. Limited spots remaining. Book at dissertationgurus.com, or DM me the word COACHING on Facebook and I will send you the details directly.

Q10: What is a theoretical framework and how do I choose one?
I have worked with more than a hundred doctoral students over nearly seventeen years. The section that generates the most revision requests in Chapter 1 is almost always the theoretical framework. Not because students do not work hard on it. Because they pick a theory without understanding what it is supposed to do. Your framework should explain the thinking behind your study: why you expect the results you expect, and how the theory connects to your problem, your methodology, and your research questions. When those connections are missing, the committee notices. Are you that student? Run your problem statement through my free Problem Statement Evaluator at

If your theoretical framework keeps coming back marked up, hear me on this. You do not have a writing problem. You have a fit problem. Most students choose a famous theory and write about its history. Your committee is checking something else entirely: does that theory explain the mechanism inside your problem, and do its constructs connect to your research questions? I put the whole fix in one packet: how to choose the right theory, the five writing moves with sentence starters, and the ten framework questions your committee will ask. The Theoretical Framework Packet is $47, instant download: https://rolanda-anderson.mykajabi.com/theoretical-framework-packet Are you that student?

Your committee is not going to ask you to recite your document. They already read it. They are going to ask you to defend the decisions behind it. Why this problem. Why this methodology. Why these research questions and not others. I spent more than fifteen years asking those questions from the approving side of the table, and I put all 60 of them into one packet, with an answer framework and sentence starters for every single one. The Defense Question Packet is $47, instant download, yours to keep: https://rolanda-anderson.mykajabi.com/defense-question-packet Are you that student?

60 questions dissertation committees actually ask, with answer frameworks from a chair with 15 plus years approving studies. Instant download, $47.
