Bonjour from Paris — from cafés to city streets! 🇫🇷

Our Saddleback Study Abroad students are wrapping up their final week in Paris, and it has been a wonderful experience filled with French culture, history, architecture, art, and everyday Parisian life.

From the “Café Life” assignment to the streets of Paris, these moments capture students learning and experiencing the city beyond the classroom.

The Paris Study Abroad program brings together the French Department and Interior Design Department, with courses taught by Professor Bouchra Nadeau and Professor Amy Heneghan.

Big congratulations to our Saddleback College Interior Design students, Yearang Song and Natascha Kruusi! ✨✨

Both received Honorable Mention Awards in the IIDA Southern California Best of Design 2026 Student Competition and are invited to the Calibre event in Los Angeles at the end of May.

We are especially proud because they competed alongside students from four-year programs and represented Saddleback beautifully. They shared their Studio II commercial projects, developed during the fall semester, and their hard work truly shined.

Thank you to IIDA SoCal for organizing this wonderful opportunity, and to the judges for sharing their time, experience, and encouragement with our students.

So proud of you, Yearang and Natascha! 👏👏

From classroom to the field ✨
Our students in ID 180WE – Interior Design Work Experience are taking their learning beyond the classroom.
Ruslana and Piper joined our recent graduate Vicky at the wood shop—exploring materials, fabrication, and gaining real, hands-on skills that shape their design thinking. So great to see our students learning by doing.

✨ We are beyond proud to celebrate our student Natascha Kruusi, who won 1st Place in the 2026 Barbour Spangle Interior Design Competition at the Bienenstock Furniture Library — a national student design competition.

Her project, Steel + Oak Gallery, impressed the judges with its lighting strategy, architectural clarity, and thoughtful integration of signage.

Even more incredible? The competition is judged blind, meaning jurors do not know which schools are represented — and this marks the fourth year in a row that a Saddleback Interior Design student has earned top recognition.

It’s a powerful reflection of our students’ creativity, discipline, and commitment to excellence.

We are so proud of you, Natascha. 👏❤️✨

✨ Student Spotlight: Yearang Song

Earlier in February, Yearang Song represented Saddleback College Interior Design at PlatForm 2026, hosted by Woodbury University at Gensler Los Angeles. The event highlighted outstanding community college students in architecture and interior design across Southern California.

At the event, Yearang presented two of her projects. In this post, we’re highlighting Prismantle, a concept gallery exploring fashion as art through immersive installations and layered architectural spaces, created in Studio II.

Another November highlight we’re excited to share ✨
Our student Yearang Song was awarded a $4,000 NEWH OC Scholarship, recognizing her dedication, talent, and commitment to hospitality design—so well deserved, and truly just the beginning!

We’re also proud to celebrate our alumni Stephanie Brooks, who is continuing her leadership journey by joining the board to serve in the coming years, while doing amazing work at .

A look back at the IIDA Southern California Student Design Expo in Los Angeles, where our students Natascha Kruusi and Yearang Song represented Saddleback Interior Design and shared their work alongside students from leading design programs across Southern California.

Design education goes beyond the studio. Experiences like this allow students to learn through real-world exposure—presenting their work, engaging with the design industry, and building confidence through professional dialogue. We’re so proud of them! 👏
