Our field of Flags is open today and tomorrow from 4-6. Come check it out!!!
This tradition began five years ago when Larry Ross traveled from Maine, bringing with him the Sea to Shining Sea flag to be unfurled during the National Anthem at the MAF Game. He suggested that our students create a memorial to honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001.
Each year, Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego has provided MVHS with flags that have marked the graves of brave men and women who have served in the US Armed Forces.The 2,996 flags on display rep- resent each of the lives lost on 9/11 during the coordinated attacks on America at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and the open field near Shanksville, PA.
As the students place these flags, they are keenly aware that that each one honors a life that could have been. It is a very moving tribute that has a profound effect on our students... who were yet to be born, or just infants, on that fateful day 18 years ago.
