Things got a little colorful—and a whole lot of fun—at Emmons Elementary School today!

All week, students participated in a “Tattoo a Teacher” fundraiser, choosing temporary tattoos for their favorite teachers and staff members—and even Superintendent Dr. Stevens joined in on the fun! The more tattoos purchased, the more our Emmons team had to show off at today’s special assembly.

And our students definitely delivered!

Together, they raised an amazing $616 toward a brand-new popcorn machine for Emmons! That meant plenty of temporary tattoos, lots of laughs, and some very colorful teachers and staff!

What a fun way for the entire school to come together for something everyone will get to enjoy. We have a feeling popcorn days at Emmons are about to get even better!

A Fist Bump Friday to Remember at Hums!

Hums Elementary started the morning with plenty of smiles, cheers, and fist bumps as Mishawaka High School student-athletes welcomed students to school!

There was a little extra excitement this morning when Hums students asked the MHS football players to add their autographs to a special football — a fun keepsake from a memorable morning.

And this Fist Bump Friday was especially meaningful. It marked the final Fist Bump Friday in the current Hums Elementary building. Next year, those fist bumps, high-fives, and Cavemen connections will continue in the brand-new Hums!

From our youngest learners to our high school student-athletes, mornings like this are a great reminder that no matter the building, the connections remain.

Jae’Don is one of five incredible MHS students participating in our inaugural Advanced Manufacturing Program (AMP) Internship at Daman Products.
What Work-Based Learning looks like in action:
Real-World Experience: Students spend a minimum of 10 hours each week during the school day at Daman.
Hands-On Learning: They rotate through different areas of the facility, getting a comprehensive look at modern manufacturing.
Career Pathways: It’s all about giving students meaningful exposure to help them discover what their future could look like.
A first paycheck, a first workplace experience, and potentially the beginning of a lifelong career. We couldn’t be prouder of Jae’Don and his fellow interns!

This Friday marks a special milestone for Mishawaka Athletics 100 years of football being played on the ground we now know as Steele Stadium.

Before it was Steele Stadium, generations of Cavemen competed on Tupper Field, building the tradition, pride, and history that still lives here today.

For a century, this has been more than just a football field. It has been a gathering place for our school, our alumni, and the Mishawaka community.

We are proud to recognize Mrs. Nicole Persyn, 6th grade teacher at Liberty Elementary School, as the recipient of the September 2026 Game Changer Award!

Mrs. Persyn’s passion for science comes to life in her classroom, where students are encouraged to ask questions, think critically, explore new ideas, and learn through hands-on discovery. Through engaging programs such as Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Launch and Mosa Mack Science, she creates meaningful opportunities for students to dive deeper into scientific concepts and build confidence as learners.

And the results speak for themselves! In the 2025–2026 ILEARN science assessment, the majority of Mrs. Persyn’s students achieved at or above proficiency, surpassing both district and state averages. Even more impressive, her student cohort demonstrated 20% growth from 4th to 6th grade.

Mrs. Persyn’s dedication to her students, commitment to academic growth, and ability to inspire curiosity make a lasting impact.

There’s something pretty special about coming back to where you once walked the halls.🤍

Fist Bump Friday stopped by John Young Middle School this morning, with Mishawaka High School student-athletes lining the hallways to welcome students with cheers, smiles, and plenty of fist bumps!

For several of our MHS athletes, the visit brought things full circle. As former John Young students themselves, they had the chance to return to their middle school, reconnect with familiar teachers and staff, and show today’s JYMS students where their own Mishawaka journey can lead.

And the welcome went both ways! John Young therapy dogs Jordan and June Bug made sure our high school students received a few greetings of their own.

From JYMS to MHS, the connections continue — and that’s what makes Fist Bump Friday so much fun!

We’re celebrating a century of learning, memories, and community at LaSalle Elementary School!

On September 7, 1926, LaSalle opened its doors for the first time, welcoming approximately 400 students in grades K–6. Built to serve the growing southwest side of Mishawaka, the new school was described by the South Bend Tribune at the time as a “monument to the progressiveness of the city.”

One hundred years later, LaSalle continues to be a special part of the Mishawaka community. Generations of Lions have walked its halls, learned in its classrooms, built lifelong friendships, and created memories that have become part of our community’s story.

As we celebrate this incredible milestone, we honor the students, families, teachers, staff, and community members—past and present—who have made LaSalle what it is today.

Happy 100th Birthday, LaSalle! Here’s to a century of Lion pride and the generations still to come!

From Beiger to the 50-Yard Line!

Two Beiger Elementary students got an up-close look at a Mishawaka football tradition Friday night as they represented their school and the Future Cavemen program during the pregame coin toss!

Before kickoff, our Future Cavemen joined the Mishawaka captains on the field, spent time alongside players and coaches, met the game officials, and headed to midfield for the coin toss with captains from the opposing team.

It’s a small part of game night that creates a pretty big experience for our Future Cavemen — giving them a chance to see the excitement, traditions, and connections of Mishawaka football from a whole new perspective.

We loved having these two Beiger students represent their school under the Friday night lights!
