On March 11, 2019 Matt and I became the official owners of a location that served the community for well over 40 years and Acorn Academy was born. Now tomorrow May 23, 2025 Acorn Academy will have its final day of operation. We have greatly enjoyed all the students and families we have gotten to know over the years. We thank all of our current and former families for all the memories and wish everyone the very best futures.

We had a wonderful visit this morning from six month old Kalita and her trainer, Jessa. Kalita is in training to become a service dog through Canine Companions. Jessa talked to all the students about the importance of asking an adult before petting a dog they do not know as some dogs are not comfortable around children. She also told us about how Kalita is trained, all the environments that she has been visiting as part of the training process and that coming to Acorn today was a great opportunity for Kalita to experience a school environment. Jessa will have Kalita until she is about a year and a half old at which time Kalita will join her siblings in Florida for "big-pup school" where she will learn more on how to be a companion service dog. We really thank Jessa and Kalita for coming to visit us all the way from Tennessee and we wish them both wonderful journeys ahead.

CURRICULUM
At Acorn Academy, each child will be viewed as a unique individual and experiences will be planned to meet each child’s individual need. Our curriculum is based on developmentally appropriate activities. Children are encouraged to participate according to their needs, strengths, and age interests. Our curriculum is based on the research validated HighScope and Montessori approaches, which believes that children and adults learn best though hands-on experiences with materials, people and the world around them. This is the foundation of our curriculum and our approach to teaching and learning. Learning is integrated into our daily routine, and playing is not separated from learning; playing is learning. Children will be free to select materials and activities within an environment that encourages discovery and problem solving, through the joy of play.
