Happy Birthday, Dr. Maria Montessori! 💙🤍

Today, we celebrate a woman whose vision transformed education by teaching us something beautifully simple: believe in the child.

At Montessori School of Miami Gardens, her philosophy comes to life every day through moments just like this—children engaged in meaningful work, teachers observing and guiding with intention, and classrooms designed to encourage independence, concentration, confidence, and a genuine love of learning.

Dr. Montessori reminded us that our role as educators is not to simply give children information, but to prepare the environment, spark curiosity, and give them the freedom and guidance to discover what they are capable of.

More than a century later, her legacy continues in every lesson presented, every choice made independently, every moment of concentration, and every proud “I did it!” 💙

This week, our pre-kindergarten students practiced essential practical life skills as they washed, cut, and prepared a colorful assortment of fruits and vegetables for a rainbow food tasting. From bananas and strawberries to grapes, blueberries, cucumbers, and baby carrots, children explored new flavors and built independence through hands-on learning. Our students left eager to share their healthy food discoveries with their families!

Building strong foundations in mathematics—one lesson at a time! 🔢✨

In this lesson, our four-year-old pre-kindergarten students are working with the Montessori Teen Board, learning numbers 11-19 through hands-on, concrete learning. Our authentic Montessori materials that allow children to first experience a concept concretely, then apply and reinforce their knowledge through increasingly challenging work.

After completing the initial lesson, students apply and reinforce their knowledge through an engaging extension activity, which also allows them to practice number writing.

Today marks the first day of school, and we are so excited to see our students return! Our pre-kindergarten students came back ready for a year filled with discovery, growth, and new friendships.

From three puzzle pieces to exploring the mathematical patterns of the squaring chains—look how far he has grown! 💙

His earliest puzzle work supported visual discrimination, hand-eye coordination and problem-solving. Over time, those small experiences helped strengthen his concentration, sequencing, persistence and confidence when approaching increasingly challenging lessons.

Skip to present-day, his work with the squaring chains allows him to explore skip-counting, numerical patterns, multiplication and the concept of squared numbers through concrete Montessori materials.

This is one of the beautiful things about Montessori education: every lesson is thoughtfully connected to the next. What begins as a simple, purposeful activity gradually becomes the foundation for deeper and more abstract learning.

Future medical heroes in the making! 🩺🐻✨
 
During Week 7 of our “Little Me, What Will I Be?” summer program, our toddlers learned about the medical field with a special visit from a real medical professionals. After discovering what doctors do, our little ones became caregivers themselves—checking heartbeats, bandaging boo-boos, and making sure their teddy bear patients were healthy before taking them home.
