“Gruesome Playground Injuries” by Rajiv Joseph is a dark comedy drama about the love and unfading connection between two best friends. We follow Kayleen and Doug from the age of 8, all the way up to age 38 with the same two actors becoming the characters at various ages. The play format bounces back and forth in time throughout these 30 years. Again and again, Kayleen and Doug are brought together by injury, heartbreak, and their own self-destructive tendencies. Along the way they experience the usual stages of growing up – first kisses, early love, holding down a job, drugs and death. The play proceeds without intermission, with scene changes that are completely visible onstage and are made to feel like part of the story.
