💡 Strong communities are built by residents who are willing to step in, get involved, and help move ideas forward. They aren't always elected officials, organizational leaders, or people with formal titles. They are community builders, connectors, volunteers, educators, organizers, and neighbors who care deeply about the future of the places they call home.

📅 𝐍𝐃 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝟐 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤 𝐓𝐚𝐧𝐤: 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞, 𝐈𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 is a one-time regional convening designed to identify, connect, and equip community builders who are helping progress move forward in ND Region 2.
Hosted by SBPC, and in partnership with NDSU Extension, this facilitated gathering will bring together participants from Ward, Bottineau, Mountrail, Pierce, Burke, McHenry, and Renville counties, as well as the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation.

Participants will:
✔ Build relationships across communities and sectors
✔ Explore common challenges limiting progress
✔ Share successful approaches and lessons learned
✔ Learn a practical framework for moving ideas from vision to implementation
✔ Develop actionable next steps for projects and community initiatives
✔ Discover opportunities for regional collaboration

We're looking for an AmeriCorps member to serve as Digital Communications Coordinator through Souris Basin Planning Council's Community Builder Program!

This 300-hour commitment will work directly with our Marketing Manager to tell the stories of local producers and empower farmers through educational content, gaining marketing experience while supporting sustainable agriculture across North Dakota.

Key responsibilities:
✅ Creating engaging social media content (including Reels & Farmer Spotlights)
✅ Writing for our bi-weekly newsletter
✅ Designing educational materials to support organic farmers
✅ Connecting with our community of producers and partners

💻 Flexible | Remote | 19 hrs/week

🎬 Back in 2013, FARRMS hosted a fundraiser featuring the 2012 film, “Symphony of the Soil” at the Fargo Theatre. The North Dakota premiere on June 18 drew around 200 attendees of a variety of ages, including organic and conventional farmers and scientists. Filmmaker Deborah Koons Garcia attended alongside Fred Kirschenmann.

The film brings soil science to life through watercolor animation and striking microphotography, connecting soil health to climate change, water, and feeding the world.

More than a decade later, the questions this film raised are still central to the work we do every day supporting sustainable and beginning farmers across North Dakota. 🌱

Get to know the farm behind the field day! 🌱

Menoken Farm utilizes a combination of natural resource education and systems approach conservation. This 150-acre demonstration farm, located just east of Bismarck was established in 2009 and draws people from all over the United States and beyond. They are leading the way in soil regeneration by using the soil health principles and long-term soil monitoring through information and education.

The farm is home to a high tunnel, vegetable gardens, a tree arboretum, and a composting operation + cropland where livestock, cover crops, and perennials all work together to build healthy soil. 🐄🪱 They work to establish partnerships with producers and consumers to ensure agriculture for future generations.
