Meet Joanna! πŸ‘©πŸΌβ€πŸŒΎ

She has been part of her family's farming operation for most of her life. When she came home after college, she saw an opportunity to diversify the family farm with a community-driven approach, and she got to work building it.

Hear her hopes and dreams for the future of her farm, Prairie Gates, and how FARRMS is helping support them.

We have an update to share! 🌸

Our 25th anniversary campaign has reached $19,960. That number represents real people who believe in sustainable agriculture, in new farmers on the land, and in the community FARRMS has spent 25 years building in North Dakota.

We're $5,040 away from our $25,000 goal, and June 30th is right around the corner.

Generous supporters like you have made it possible for us to walk alongside farmers by connecting them with mentors, creating a lasting community, and empowering them to grow food in ways that are good for the soil and the generations that follow. We want to continue this work for the next 25 years.

If you've been thinking about giving, now is the time. And if you've already given, THANK YOU! πŸ’› https://www.farrms.org/empoweringfarmers

FARRMS has always adapted and grown to meet the needs of the community we serve.

🏑 In 2003, we celebrated a major milestone with the construction of our first office building in Medina, ND.

🌱 As our programs expanded, in 2017, we relocated to the Tuttle Rural Innovation Center, embracing the opportunity to reimagine the space as an educational center for local foods.

πŸ’» As education and the world around us continued to shift, FARRMS adapted once again. In 2022, we transitioned to a fully remote workplace. This has allowed our team to stay connected and continue to serve farmers and ranchers across the whole state.

25 years of growth, change, and showing up for North Dakota's farmers. As we celebrate this milestone, we're raising $25,000 to help us keep growing for the next 25 years. We're at $19,760, help us reach the goal before June 30th! πŸ’šhttps://www.farrms.org/25years

Happy National Cucumber Day! πŸ₯’

Cucumbers are one of the easiest crops to grow in a North Dakota garden, and one of the most refreshing once summer heat hits.

🌱 Growing tip: Cucumbers love consistent moisture and a trellis to climb. Keeping them off the ground also means straighter cukes and fewer pests.

Not growing your own this year? Stop by your local farmers market this summer and pick some up fresh!

✨ Meet our Farm Beginnings students! F & F Farms

F&F Farms, LLC, owned and operated by Chad Faaborg, is located near Devils Lake and starting its first season.

The grow list this year includes cabbage, peppers, tomatoes, basil, radish, peas, broccolini, carrots, onions, beans, garlic, asparagus, cucumbers, potatoes, and zucchini. His favorite thing to grow? Chad says he'll try anything and is just looking forward to the season! πŸ…πŸ§„

Plans for the farm are to install a high tunnel, begin land reclamation efforts, and eventually transition the whole operation to organic production with oats and hay as secondary crops.

When asked how Farm Beginnings has helped, Chad said it "gave him the resources to find potential financial opportunities and personal contacts" for when challenges come up.
