In keeping with the university mission, the MSU Division of Performing Arts is first and foremost dedicated to the success of all students, to engaged and life-long learning, to the advancement of knowledge, service and to the development of student character. We seek to provide courses of

study and performance opportunities that foster aesthetic, technical and intellectual development for the performer and teacher alike. The Division of Performing Arts is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music and endorsed by National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education. With 18 highly qualified music faculty members, we offer a comprehensive and personalized curriculum for all students. Activities throughout the academic year place our students side by side with an array of international, national and local professionals. Partnerships such as the Western Plains Opera, the Minot Symphony Orchestra, the Dakota Chamber Music, IBLA Artists in Residence, along with numerous guest artists and teachers provide an urban-connected awareness to our goal to “be seen, be heard”.

Please help us welcome our new Director of Bands, Dr. Keith Roeckle!

Prior to this appointment, he was a Doctoral Fellow at Temple University where he also was the Director of the Night Owls Campus-Community Band and coordinator of music theory for Temple's Community Music Scholars Program. Before his doctoral work, he was a high school instrumental music teacher at Ridley High School (Folsom, PA), Lincoln High School (Philadelphia, PA), and the Lawrenceville School (Lawrenceville, NJ). Dr. Roeckle is an accomplished arranger for instrumental ensembles and is a frequent piano accompanist for soloists and ensembles. His research interests include aural skills acquisition, adolescents and music, and music theory pedagogy.
