Congratulations to another MCHS choir student, Alla Dobrovolska, featured on Illinois High School Musical Theatre Awards for Costume Design & Construction for our production of Freaky Friday!

"I learned all of the characters in this show and ideas of what I would imagine them wearing started flowing through my mind. I was confident I could make the actors on stage shine brighter with the confidence and comfortability they felt from their costume. My incredible crew and I gathered all of our ideas and combined them to provide the actors with ideas and inspiration of what their character should look like and what they should portray to the audience. We carefully spoke to each and every cast member about their characters and how we imagined they would be dressed proportional to their character. One more shout out to an MCHS choir student, Jackson Page, featured on Illinois High School Musical Theatre Awards for his performance as Mike in Freaky Friday! Congratulations, Jackson!

"Young men feel the expectation to always be strong and are taught that feeling emotions leads to weakness. Mike has taught me that being healthily masculine means sharing vulnerability and feeling emotion does not make you weak. The vulnerability that Mike shares with his family helps make him the strong anchor character he is. He feels deeply, and the audience is aware of that. Another MCHS choir student featured on Illinois High School Musical Theatre Awards for her part as Katherine in the spring musical Freaky Friday! Congratulations to Melanie Vargas!

"Katherine taught me to never take anything for granted, to love unconditionally, and to never be anyone but myself. Playing a daughter majority of the time while also emulating a mother made me think about my own relationship with my mom and helped me understand her perspective on life. Portraying a sister who is constantly being nagged by her little brother taught me just how much I love him, regardless. This musical is a testament to how love is the solution to everything. Shout out to our own Kameron Cole, who was featured on Illinois High School Musical Theatre Awards for his recent role as Adam (🎼ADAM!🎶) in the MCHS spring musical, Freaky Friday! Congratulations Kameron!

"Adam taught me to let loose. Adam is simply here for good vibes and for everyone to live positively. Adam helped me learn to relax after focusing on lines or dance moves. Every time I went on stage as Adam, he helped me take it all in and really look back on my passion for theatre and why I joined. For every sandwich, every “Hunt” prop piece, and every selfie, Adam taught me to stop, take a breath, and chill.
