In its new rankings released Aug. 18, U.S. News & World Report named Westonka High School (formerly Mound Westonka High School) the No. 8 traditional public high school in Minnesota and the No. 14 “Best High School” overall in the state.

The “2026-2027 Best High Schools” rankings are based on a combination of factors: college readiness and college curriculum breadth (measured by 2024 AP exam data); state assessment proficiency and performance, including outcomes for underserved students, from the 2023-24 academic year; and graduation rate for the Class of 2024.

“This ‘Best High Schools’ ranking reflects the outstanding teaching and learning happening at Westonka every day,” said Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning Mark Femrite. “It’s validating to see Westonka High School ranked so highly based on data from a couple of years ago. We’ve continued to build on those results, and the progress we’ve seen since then gives us even more reason to be proud of the positive momentum at WHS.”

Westonka High School students reached new heights in Advanced Placement (AP) achievement in 2026!

A record 241 students took 447 AP exams, with 84.34% earning scores of 3 or higher—the highest AP exam passing rate since Westonka began tracking results in 2007. Scores of 3 or higher can qualify students for college credit at many colleges and universities.

“What makes these results especially impressive is that we’re seeing record participation alongside record achievement,” said Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning Mark Femrite. “More Westonka students are challenging themselves with rigorous AP coursework, and they are succeeding at an incredibly high level. These results speak to the hard work of our students, the dedication of our teachers, and the culture of academic excellence at Westonka High School.”

Another record: 74 Westonka students were named AP Scholars, including 32 AP Scholars with Distinction and 21 AP Scholars with Honor.

As construction continues across the shared campus of Westonka High School, Thaler Ice Arena, the Westonka Activity Center (WAC), and the Educational Service Center (ESC), we need everyone’s cooperation to keep our community safe.

📍 ACCESS & PARKING

The ESC is open, but parking lots and drives are under construction. Please call (952) 491-8000 to schedule an appointment before visiting.

For all summer athletic programming, park only in designated lots as directed by your program.

Do not enter any construction zones or bypass fencing, barricades, or signage. These are active work areas with heavy equipment and changing conditions.

🚫 NO CAMPUS SHORTCUTS

The public must not cut through the Westonka High School campus, including the athletic fields south of the WAC, areas west of the high school and Thaler Arena, and any construction areas.

Walkers and bikers must use perimeter sidewalks/roadways only.

E-bikes and e-scooters are not allowed on campus.

These expectations apply to all community members, including dog walkers.

Thank you for helping us keep the campus safe during this important construction period.
