Are you interested in piano lessons for you or your child(ren)? I LOVE music and love working with students to inspire them to love music too. My ultimate goal as a teacher is to help each student gain a lifelong love for music - particularly the piano. I want them to play well enough to be able to sit down and play for hours as a relaxing and fun pastime. I can't tell you how many times I have heard someone tell me, "I used to take piano lessons. I wish my parents had never let me quit!" Each person is different and I do my best to work with each student to find music that jazzes them and makes them never want to quit. Included in each student's plan is music theory, technique, and a wide range of repertoire. I am committed to the success of each student, and seek to meet the specific needs and style preferences of each one. For most beginners, I use either the Faber & Faber series, Piano Town or the Bastien piano methods books, along with various other resources. The use of duets is a wonderful way to integrate learning with great satisfaction. I also encourage students to share their music with others, whether that be at school, church, nursing homes, family gatherings, etc. Some people ask what the right age is to start their child in lessons. My loose answer would be around age seven, or when they are able to read. Some exceptions are made for younger children if they are very motivated and you find you can’t keep them away from the piano at home. Otherwise, around the age of seven they seem to have greater success at learning the musical concepts required for playing the piano. My studio is near the intersection of Minnetonka Blvd and Baker Road. I have been teaching piano lessons for over 20 years. I have a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University-St. Paul where I received training in music, and specifically piano pedagogy. In addition, I have been involved in the music at our church for 30 years; my responsibilities there have included choir accompanist, church pianist, kid’s choir director, and Worship Pastor. I teach four days a week – Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday – I have afternoon and early evening options. Each lesson is ½ hour in length.
