🎶 Last concert of the season — and we're going out with a bang.
If you've been meaning to catch a GSW concert, make it this one. May 1st at Hopkins High School, 7 PM.
Some of the highlights?
First and foremost, we are excited to share this concert with the Hopkins High School Wind Ensemble and are looking forward to the opportunity to listen to them.
Second, we are performing John Williams' Escapades — drawn from his Academy Award-nominated score for Spielberg's Catch Me If You Can (2002). Sophisticated and jazzy — it features our own Doug Matuska on alto saxophone, joined by Justin Schramm on vibraphone, Keith Koehlmoos on piano, and Josh King on string bass to fill out that irresistible 1960s groove sound.
And we can't wait to perform the Overture to The Wreckers — a stunning piece by Ethel Smyth, brilliantly transcribed for wind ensemble by our own Andy Tanick.
Rounding out the program: works by Ching-Shan Chang, Oliver Waespi, and Dennis Llinás.
A special thank you to the Hopkins High School Wind Ensemble and director Nora Tycast for sharing the stage with us — we can't think of a better way to close out the season!
Great music. Great people. Come hear both. 🎷
