Out of an abundance of caution, the gallery will be closed this week as the MCAD community processes the tragic events that occurred blocks away from campus over the weekend. We will reopen to the public on Monday, February 2, 2026.

We are pleased to announce the four recipients of the 2025/26 MCAD–Jerome Foundation Fellowships for Early Career Artists: CRICE, Tshab Her, Grover Hogan, and Suriya SamKhuth. A hearty congratulations to this year's fellows!

The fellows were selected from 81 Minnesota-based applicants by arts professionals who included: Brianna Hernández, Visual Artist and Director of Curation at Ma's House; Taylor Jasper, Susan and Rob White Assistant Curator, Visual Arts, Walker Art Center; and Kathy Liao, Kansas City, MO-based, Visual Artist and Arts Administrator at Mid-America Arts Alliance.

This competitive fellowship provides $10,000, plus $1,000 in professional development funds to each recipient for the production of new work. In addition to being featured in a group exhibition at the MCAD Gallery, fellows have an opportunity to meet with visiting critics during the fellowship year, have an essay written about their work for the exhibition catalog, and participate in a public panel discussion.

The Jerome Foundation has supported this fellowship program since its inception in 1981.

NOW OPEN! "Break Room - MCAD Staff Exhibition"
On view through July 19.

"Break Room" showcases the dedicated staff members of MCAD and the creative projects they engage in during their off hours. This exhibition is inspired by the concept of a staff break room—a space for employees to unwind, recharge, relax, and socialize and offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse into our vibrant and interconnected creative community.

We are pleased to announce the six recipients of the 2025 McKnight Fellowships for Visual Artists: Leslie Barlow, Charles Matson Lume, Joe Sinness, Laura Wennstrom, Diane Willow, and Shun Yong. Designed to support mid-career Minnesota artists, the McKnight Fellowships for Visual Artists provide each recipient with a $25,000 stipend, public recognition, professional encouragement from national critics, and a residency facilitated by the Artist Communities Alliance (ACA). The fellowships are funded by a grant from the McKnight Foundation and administered by MCAD.

The 2025 McKnight fellows were selected from a group of 144 applicants by a national panel of arts professionals. Jurors were Hương Ngô, interdisciplinary artist and educator, based in Chicago, IL and Santa Barbara, CA; Alisa Swindell, Associate Curator of Photography, Hood Museum of Art, Dartmouth College; and Claudia Zapata, Associate Curator of Latino Art, Blanton Museum of Art, TX.

On behalf of the Jerome Foundation, Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD) announces four recipients of the 2024/25 MCAD–Jerome Foundation Fellowships for Early Career Artists: Namir Fearce, Nik Nerburn, Amy Usdin, and Ger Xiong/Ntxawg Xyooj.

Artists were selected from 68 Minnesota-based applicants by arts professionals who included Marissa Del Toro, NXTVN Assistant Director of Programs & Exhibitions, Independent Curator, and Art Historian; Raheleh Filsoofi, Interdisciplinary and Itinerant Artist, Assistant Professor in Ceramics at Vanderbilt University; and Ruth Pszwaro, Artistic Director, Grand Marais Art Colony.

Pszwaro stated: “This pool of applicants paired creative risk-taking and a desire to explore their personal narratives as subject matter with a dedication to technical excellence and deep work in the studio. It is an exciting moment for early career artists in Minnesota.”
