Erica Spitzer Rasmussen is retiring from Metro State and her retrospective exhibition reception is this Thursday! Erica is an amazing person, artist, and one of our incredibly talented teaching artists.

When asked what advice she would have given herself 30 years ago when she started her career, her response was that she wished she had taken classes with Karen Wirth.

Go check out her show, and don’t forget to look for her classes at MCBA this summer. Our teaching artist community is legendary. Congrats, Erica!

🎉 👏 We're excited to celebrate our Haiku Poetry winner, Marique B. Moss! Last week, MCBA staff and studio fellows hand-set Marique’s poem with lead type, and then letterpress printed it in our studios. In honor of Earth Day, we’ll be giving away prints of the poem today in the Shop (while supplies last). Swing by to grab your own copy!! All online orders placed today will also include a complementary print.

"Seeing my sweetgrass poke through makes me so happy. It’s coming back from where it’s always been. It knows what to do. It feels like blood memory, something ancestral. That’s what this piece holds.”

Marique is an Afro-Indigenous writer and educator from Minneapolis and an enrolled member of the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation. She is the author of Sweetgrass and Soul Food: A Memoir in Poems, which draws on lived experience, identity, and memory with honesty, humor, and heart.
