Meet Lisa Korthals! 📚💚
Lisa brings a rich background in both English and theological education. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Language Arts Education from Wayne State College and a Master’s Degree in Theological Studies from Bethel University. Her teaching experience includes serving as an adjunct professor at Crown College, where she taught literature, writing, English composition, Old Testament history, and Old Testament interpretation. Most recently, she taught 5th–8th-grade Language Arts and 7th–8th-grade Math at First Lutheran Schools.
Lisa knew from a young age that she wanted to be a teacher. After returning to the classroom during COVID, she realized how important it was for her to share her faith with her students each day. God led her to Christian education, where she says her faith, values, and beliefs could be celebrated.
At Avail, Lisa is most looking forward to serving on the team and meeting her students! We know she’ll bring a love of learning, a passion for God’s Word, and a wealth of experience to her classroom.
Outside of school, Lisa loves spending time with her family, reading mystery novels, writing, and collecting vintage textbooks, hymnals, and novels. She also enjoys crocheting, knitting, and embroidery, and she and her husband, Mark, have been together for 32 years! ❤️
Lisa and Mark also feel called to serve in El Salvador, where they hope to spend future summers working with organizations that provide education, food, and medical support to local communities.
And, of course, no introduction would be complete without mentioning Lisa’s three dogs: Frodo, Kenny, and Bambi! 🐶🐶🐶
Welcome to Avail, Lisa! We’re so glad you’re here and can’t wait to see how God uses your gifts to bless our students and community.
