10 YEARS OF THE ACADEMY EDEN PRAIRIE! 🎉🥋

When it came time to decide how to celebrate our 10-year anniversary, the answer was easy.

Train.

Training is the heart and soul of the martial artist. It’s what brings us together, challenges us, builds friendships, and creates the community that has kept The Academy Eden Prairie going strong for a decade.

Since Greg Nelson Greg Nelson opened The Academy MN in 1992, our mission has remained the same:

“We are dedicated to the creative and hard working individual and to the integrity of the combative martial arts.”

We couldn’t think of a better way to honor that mission and celebrate 10 years than to bring in two of the biggest Academy OGs there are: Coaches Nat McIntyre and Andy Grahn!

And we want EVERYONE to join us.

On Saturday, November 14th, we’re opening our doors to the entire martial arts community. Whether you’re a current member, a former student, or train at another gym, you’re invited. Kids and adults, Muay Thai practitioners and jiu-jitsu grapplers, all affiliations welcome!

Ten years of hard work, growth, friendships, and countless hours on the mats. We’re grateful for everyone who has been part of our story, and we can’t think of a better way to celebrate than doing what brought us all together in the first place.

Train hard. Celebrate together. Everyone welcome! ❤️

📣 IMPORTANT UPDATE TO MONDAY & WEDNESDAY BJJ TRAINING!

Many of you know about our unwritten rule that you can train No-Gi during the M/W Gi All Levels class if you prefer. While we hoped this would give everyone the flexibility they wanted, we’ve realized it isn’t the best system.

Our Gi students don’t always get the training they want and expect, and asking our coaches to cater to both Gi and No-Gi in the same class makes it difficult to give either group the best experience.

So, we’re simplifying things with a new schedule that gives both groups dedicated training:

❌ FORMER M/W BJJ SCHEDULE
5:30 — Gi All Levels
6:30 — Gi Foundations

✅ NEW M/W BJJ SCHEDULE
5:30 — No-Gi All Levels
6:30 — Gi Mixed Levels

🤼 5:30 is now officially No-Gi All Levels.
This means we now offer high-level No-Gi training every day of the week, better reflecting our community’s preference for No-Gi-focused training.

🥋 6:30 is now Gi Mixed Levels — and the Gi is required.
Mixed Levels means the class is scalable for newer students while still providing valuable training for experienced practitioners.

Because this is a dedicated Gi class, we’ll make sure the curriculum takes advantage of what makes Gi training unique, including Gi-specific grips, techniques, strategies, and some of the more esoteric Gi knowledge that doesn’t come up in our No-Gi classes.

📅 The new schedule starts Monday, September 21st!

Two dedicated classes. Clear expectations. Better training for everyone.

See you on the mats! 👊

Minor schedule tweaks effective today! Training hours on Friday have changed. Jiu-jitsu open mat is now 5:30-6:30 and Muay Thai sparring follows at 6:30-7:30. Monday MMA is now Open Mat for any martial art.

Super proud of our kids that went out there today and kicked some butt at Naga!! Great performances and exciting matches all around!

Challenging the growing women’s class to dodgeball over mat space… bold move guys. 💪🔥

07/03/2026

No drilling. Just exploring with a specific goal in mind.

Instead of memorizing techniques, our students learn by solving movement problems in real time.

Every round is an opportunity to discover what works, what doesn’t, and why.

That’s the idea behind Constraint-Led Approach (CLA): building adaptable grapplers, not rehearsed ones.

Because your opponent won’t follow the script.
