Powell Center for Women’s Health was designated as an Academic Center of Excellence in Women’s Health by the Office of Women's Health, U.S. While federal funding for the Centers of Excellence ended in 2007, with support from the Academic Health Center and the Medical School, the Powell Center continues to provide leadership in women’s health research for the state of Minnesota and across the United States.

Dr. Renee Sieving, PhD, RN, FAAN, FSAHM

Dr. Sieving is a Professor with the School of Nursing and the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Minnesota. She directs the Healthy Youth Development - Prevention Research Center, which conducts community-partnered research, provides training, and disseminates actionable knowledge to promote positive youth development and health equity among young people. As a nurse practitioner, she has worked with adolescents and their families in a variety of school and community settings. Dr. Sieving’s research focuses on understanding influences that help adolescents avoid risky s*xual behaviors, violence, and early pregnancy; and on testing interventions that involve health clinics, schools, families and communities in promoting the health and well-being of our young people. Dr. Regensteiner will be discussing her research which explores why women with diabetes have even poorer cardiovascular outcomes than men with diabetes. We hope you'll join us!

Dr. Judy Regensteiner, PhD

Dr. Regensteiner is the Director of the Center for Women’s Health Research and Professor of Medicine in the Divisions of Internal Medicine and Cardiology at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. Dr. Regensteiner’s research expertise is in the cardiovascular effects of diabetes with a specific focus on women with type 2 diabetes since they appear to have more significant abnormalities than men with diabetes. Her lab has been funded for over 20 years for this work and her publications have influenced the field. She is also known for her research on peripheral arterial disease.
