Health Equity Minor has added a new course!

For Fall 2018, Professor Christina Ewig and Debra Fitzpatrick will be teaching PA 5690 Gender and Intersectional Networking Series (GAINS). This course will prepare students with skills to overcome barriers that perpetuate disparities in leadership across both public and private sector jobs. By exploring institutional barriers across gender and race, students will build upon individual leadership skills and how to enact change.

Students of all genders interested in addressing personal and institutional barriers to advancement that are rooted in gender inequalities and their intersections with race and other forms of inequality are welcome to enroll.

PA 5690 satisfies the minor requirements for the Health Equity Minor.

This fall, Dr. Kathleen Call and Dr. Carissa Slotterback will be teaching a new class, Health Impact Assessment: A tool to promote health equity (PubH6703/PA5290). See flyer for more details.

Health Impact Assessment (HIA) is a tool that uses the best-available evidence to uncover the health impacts of policies, plans and projects in order to influence decisions before they are finalized. HIAs focus on social determinants of health. Strong community engagement grounds the HIA in the health issues and topics important to those who will be impacted by the decision, leading to more equitable, healthier communities. This is a skills focused course that introduces students to the six steps of an HIA, along with relevant data sources and methods. HIA practitioners will share their insights and experiences conducting HIAs in Minnesota.
