Tonight is the night! Here’s a sneak peak at Field Elementary students.

Viva City Fine Arts Festival is a celebration of the outstanding fine arts education offered in the Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS). In its 28th year, this district-wide event highlights the high-quality arts programs and the extraordinary work of MPS students, arts educators, and the community. This work is supported and enhanced by strong partnerships between MPS, artists, and arts organizations. Participants in Viva City represent all students, teachers, and partners that are involved in visual and performing arts classes and other arts enriched activities across the district. Viva City has taken many forms over the past 28 years and typically includes three visual arts exhibitions (elementary, middle, and high school) and at least one performance event.

Minneapolis Public Schools will temporarily move to online learning Friday, Jan. 14 through Friday, Jan. 28, returning to in-person learning on Monday, Jan. 31.

The shift to online learning is due to the impact of COVID-19 on MPS staffing. The current surge in COVID-19 is challenging our ability to operate schools at full capacity, but we are committed to providing consistent learning for our students. More information has been shared with families via email, calls and our website.

Dakota Artist featured in John B. Davis Gallery

Works from Dakota Artist Graci Horne are now on display at the John B. Davis Gallery from Oct. 11 - Nov. 19. This collaboration between MPS Indian Education and MPS Arts celebrates the artistry of local Dakota Artist Graci Horne.

Hapistinna (female given name; Dakota for third born girl) Graci Horne was born and raised in Mnisota (Minnesota). Her bands are the Sisseton Wahpeton Dakota people and Hunkpapa Lakota and Dakota people. Horne is a multi-disciplinary artist, specializing in painting, printmaking, puppet making, photography, film and poetry. Her work is defined by landscape hues and the colors of water and is often rooted in undertones of Dakota culture and social themes.

Horne is an independent curator and teaches workshops as a community artist. She holds a degree in museum studies from the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, N.M.
