🥁🥁Rhythm Kids® is a high-energy, drum-playing, dancing, singing, game-playing class geared specifically for big kids ages 5-8.

Rhythm Kids helps children develop the facility, repertoire, mastery, and creativity to be confident music students and music-makers throughout their lives. Plus, kids gain valuable skills they’ll take with them to the elementary school classroom (and beyond!). The music and movement activities support growth in several key developmental areas and naturally motivate kids to focus and engage.

Rhythm Kids is offered in our Shoreview studio this fall, starting in September:

If you’ve ever wished for an extra set or two of grandparents, then we have a class for you!

🎶The Generations music class is a Mixed-Age Music Together® class with the sweetest twist: the addition of senior participants. Kids and their grownups visit their “Musical Grandfriends” at a local retirement home or senior center and spend time making music as a large extended family.

💞These intergenerational music classes for seniors and children are popular retirement home activities because the fun songs and children’s liveliness and laughter help to brighten up everybody’s day. Making music together connects people in ways that few other activities can, and this type of class bridges the generations by helping seniors, staff, parents, and kids form new and satisfying relationships.

It's the hallmark of our program - 🎶Mixed Age🎶 family music class!

✨Music Together was the first early childhood music program to offer music classes for mixed ages. Child development researchers have known for a long time that the natural, family-style environment of mixed-age classes is the best way for young children to learn. In our experience, it works!

👶👩‍👧‍👦In Mixed-Age classes, the older children love to show what they know, and the younger ones love to watch and imitate. The relaxed, no-pressure environment lets all kids learn at their own pace, and you can enjoy watching your children learn and play together in class, along with other children of various ages.

👭"In the orchestra of nonverbal communication, rhythm is like the conductor, helping all the other instruments stay in sync." (Chapter 3, Raising a Socially Successful Child)

✨This quick-but-interesting book looks at the cues and interactions of today's children that help them establish and maintain successful and fulfilling friendships. One of his first topics is rhythm: the strong, regular, repeated pattern of movement or sound, and how it permeates our lives.

👭Being in sync with others means other nonverbal markers of communication flow together with comfort, ease with a natural feel. Things like walking next to each other, or walking in a line as many children do in school, or taking turns within an activity are examples of ways we rely on rhythm to keep us connected to those around us.

🎶Dr. Nowicki found in his research that often times when children were "out of sync" socially in the classroom, they also displayed a lack of basic rhythmic ability. How fascinating!

🕺🏻How can you help your child begin their social journey in life? By singing & dancing with them! As infants, babies enjoy & are comforted by the heartbeat rhythm they experienced in utero. They love rhythmic bouncy lap songs, and dancing in your arms. Toddlers can echo phrases, play mirror games with movement, & put the rhythm into their bodies when moving & even playing with instruments.

🎶Nowicki even recommends attending Music Together classes to experience joyful singing and dancing with other babies, toddlers, big kids & a variety of grown-up models! (Side note: I'd recommend reading the book even if he didn't specifically suggest taking one of our classes😉)

🎶In 1987, Music Together emerged a the first research based, mixed-age music class for early childhood. From birth to age 5, a child’s brain develops more, and more rapidly, than at any other time in life and the quality of a child’s experiences in the first few years of life helps shape how the brain develops. In early childhood, these experiences have a lasting impact on a child's health and ability to learn and succeed in school and in life.
