Hi all!
I hope the summer has been wonderful and relaxing for everyone :) This year we have a brand new way to fund raise that requires almost ZERO effort from everyone. Welzoo is a website which donates $.03 to our organization everyday that YOU use the internet. It doesn't seem like very much, but it will add up quickly if we all set welzoo as one of our startup tabs. Here's the link www.welzoo.com/join/west-coast-swin/WqEI_VY
Thanks in advance for helping with this! It'll make a huge difference.
Welzoo | Free Funding for Charities & Student Orgs If you can see this right now, you're on the Internet. If you're on the Internet, you can support West Coast Swing Club!
Lessons tonight at 7 in Peik Gym! Foundations is from 7-8:30 and we'll have a workshop for bridging the gap between social dance and competition after that! See you there :)
Hello dancers!
Our summer session starts THIS WEDNESDAY, June 10th! We will be holding classes in a workshop style every other Wednesday this summer. We are meeting in our usual location: Peik Gym room G65. You can either pay on each day you want to come ($5 for students, $7 for non-students), or you can pay one flat rate for the summer ($25 for students, $35 for non-students). We will start at 7pm with a foundations level class, and then from 8:30-9:30pm we will have a special topic workshop!
The topic for each week is as follows:
June 10th: Night Club Two-Step
June 24th: Hustle
July 8th: Swag practice/Solo West Coast work
July 22nd: Bridging the gap between social and competitive West Coast Swing
August 5th: Styling
August 19th: Choreography
While each of these topics can be approached from any level of dance, the latter half of the summer might be a little challenging for anyone brand new to the dance (but we'd love to have you either way :)). We also have awesome t-shirts available for just $10! Direct any questions to us in a comment or message, and we can't wait to see everyone on Wednesday!!
Happy Summer!!
As we begin to finalize summer lesson structure, we need to get an idea of how many of our lovely dancers will be attending. Please comment below if you plan on attending every other week summer workshops!
Thanks :)
Bad news people:
TONIGHT IS OUR LAST LESSON OF THE SEMESTER!
I know, I know. It's tragic and heart wrenching...BUT we will be having a summer lesson series that will start on June 10th. More info will follow in an email, so if you think you may not be on our mailing list, please send an email to "[email protected]".
Tonight is the last opportunity to pick up your T-Shirt before the summer lessons. Don't forget to bring your $10 so you can rock the highest fashion item of this century. We have a few extras if you didn't get a chance to order one but are now understandably feeling silly and left out.
On a more serious note, thank you all for making this semester so much fun. From all of the board members, it has truly been an honor to dance with each and every one of you, and we look forward to seeing you on the dance floor in the future!
Sarah
Happy Wednesday!
T-Shirts should be here by next week, so please bring your $10 tonight or next week. You will be unable to pick up your T-Shirt without paying first.
See you all tonight!
Hello Lovely West Coast Dancers!
We are finalizing our T-Shirt order, so if you have not already let us know what size you want, please let us know by emailing [email protected] by the end of the day on Friday.
The shirts will be dark grey with our logo (our current profile picture) on the back and our name on the front. Our goal is to have them in by Swing Dance America so we can represent the club at the competition! :)
Hi Everyone! This is just a quick reminder that there will not be lessons this week as it's the University's Spring Break.
The second session of Foundations 1 will begin the Wednesday after break, the 25.
Hope you all have a wonderful week off!
Hi Everyone,
If you were at lessons last week, you know that we are looking into getting club T-Shirts!! The cost will depend on the number of shirts we order, but they will definitely be less than $10. Once we have a better idea of how many people are interested, we'll begin the ordering process and post a photo of the design.
Interested? You should be! Please send an email to [email protected] letting us know you're thinking about it and what size you would want. (This is not a commitment to purchase, we just need an idea so we can give a definitive price)

Hi Gophers!
We hope you're all surviving Spring Semester: Day 1, and looking forward to our first lesson on Wednesday, January 28th! **Happy Dance/clap sequence**
The schedule has changed slightly:
Intermediate- 7:00pm
Foundations I- 7:45pm
Foundations II- 8:30pm
Social Dancing- 9:15pm
If you are new to the club, please attend Foundations I.
If you are a returning member, please attend Foundations II unless you have spoken with Niko about moving onto Intermediate.
There is also a dancing opportunity this Saturday through the Carleton West Coast Swing club! Dimitri, an officer of their club, passed along this info:
"Hello everybody!
We are the officers for the Carleton West Coast Swing Club, and we are very excited to extend an invitation to you all to attend a West Coast Swing workshop hosted at Carleton College on January 24th. Hieu Le, a professional instructor from the Cities, will be teaching two workshops, which will be followed by three hours of social dancing. It will take place on Saturday, January 24th, from 6pm-11pm. There will be a $5 flat entrance fee for any non-Carleton students, which includes the two workshops and the social dancing afterwards.
The first workshop, from 6-7pm, will be a “Foundations” lesson on dancing in closed frame (including starter steps). The second workshop (7-8pm), which we are currently calling TYDTTNL (Take Your Dancing To The Next Level…), will be in Hieu’s words a "longer/repetitive pattern for rock'n'go's that will involve quick rotations for followers and a more complex maneuvering/lead techniques for leaders”. Hieu has also kindly offered to DJ for us for a portion of the social dancing, which will be from 8-11pm.
The workshops will be held in the Weitz Center for Creativity (3rd Street East, Northfield MN), in the larger of the two dance studios (Weitz 165). It’s on the ground level floor. You can park along any of the streets in the area or in the parking spaces near Weitz. As a warning, the doors lock at 9pm and you need a Carleton ID card to get in, so call one of us if you’re stuck outside.
If you are interested in attending, please let us know just so we have some idea of who to expect. Also let us know if you have any other questions!"
Sorry this post was so long!
See you all this weekend or Wednesday,
Sarah
