This morning, our scholars in the Summer Language and Math (SLAM) program had the opportunity to hear from St. Paul Mayor Kaohly Her.

Mayor Her shared her inspiring journey—from being born in Laos and coming to the United States as a refugee with her family to becoming the first Hmong American and first woman to serve as Mayor of St. Paul. She encouraged our scholars to dream big, work hard, and never let their circumstances define what they can achieve.

After sharing her story, Mayor Her took time to thoughtfully answer our scholars' questions. We are so grateful for the opportunity to learn from her leadership, resilience, and commitment to serving our community. Experiences like these inspire our scholars to see what is possible and remind them that their own stories have the power to shape the future!

Today, our scholars at our Summer Language and Math (SLAM) program had the incredible opportunity to hear from Olympic gold medalist John Harrington!

John shared his journey to becoming a member of the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team, spoke about the dedication and hard work that led to his success and encouraged our scholars to pursue their goals with perseverance. He also took time to answer their thoughtful questions—and even brought along his Olympic gold medal!
