In their most recent study, Parentaly found that at least 73% of new parents consider leaving their company at least “occasionally” and one-third leave within 18 months of their return to work. Of those who leave, only 4% leave the workforce. Stats like this stress the importance of effective parental leave policies to support in the workplace. Want to learn more?

Our featured speaker Allison Whalen, CEO & Founder of Parentaly will dive into:

1. Top concerns and challenges employees face before and after parental leave

2. The manager and organizational impact of parental leave transitions

3. Recommendations for employers on how to better attract and retain employees through parental leave

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN! We are excited to kick off the year with our Speaking of Work Speaker Series with Allison Whalen, CEO of Parentaly.

Despite the benefits of longer paid leave policies, there are still many open questions about how to implement policies that truly support business continuity and the careers of working parents. After surveying thousands of women who returned from parental leave over the last three years, Parentaly found that:

▪️Parental leaves impact a large swath of the organization: 52% of parental leaves result in team burnout.

▪️Returning employees are leaving for other opportunities after a poor parental leave experience: 73% of new parents consider leaving their company at least occasionally and one-third leave within 18 months of returning from leave

▪️Women are worried about career progression: 68% said their number one concern with taking leave is the impact it would have on their career, above both childcare and health concerns

In this session, Parentaly's CEO Allison will dig into the top five takeaways from this research, addressing:

1. Top concerns and challenges employees face before and after parental leave

2. The manager and organizational impact of parental leave transitions

3. Recommendations for employers on how to better attract and retain employees through parental leave

When it comes to thankfulness, Justin Nuahn tops the list!📃✍️ A '11 MHRIR graduate who now serves as the Human Resources Director at Memorial Blood Centers! Thank you for all that you do for us! We got to learn more from Justin about his passion for the Board!

What made you want to get involved with the Alumni Board?
I chose to apply for the CHRLS Alumni Board because of the HR tomorrow conference, each year I leave the conference refreshed and energized. After attending one of the recent conferences, I decided that being part of the Alumni Board would be another way to stay connected with my friends and colleagues from the HRIR program.

Big gratitude for a big-hearted alum 💓, Ching Lin a MHRIR '23 graduate who is now a a Senior Talent Acquisition Leader at 3M. Thank you for all that you do for the Board! We got the chance to hear from Ching about what makes the MHRIR Program special.

How has the MHRIR Program helped you with your career or overall?
The MHRIR program has broadened my perspective and sharpened my critical thinking skills. It may sound cliché, but it has also made me a more empathetic person, as I have learned to consider situations from multiple angles, which has deepened my understanding of others. This growth has made me more effective in working with people of diverse backgrounds and personalities. On the career front, the education, skills, and insights I gained from the program contributed to my promotion, and I’m now in a people leadership role.

Grateful doesn’t even begin to cover how we feel about Gulnur! a MHRIR '23 graduate and now a People Team Associate at United Health Group. Thank you for all that you do for our Board. We got a chance to hear from Gulnur and learn more.

What are you most excited about in the role?
We can make an impact through providing connections to mentors and mentees and I am very energized with this idea. I think mentoring overall is an underestimated element in one's development. If it's leveraged properly you can obtain an incredible amount of opportunities (and wisdom) and this goes for both sides

11/20/2024

Thankful for leaders like Carley Potter a MHRIR '21 graduate who is a Senior Learning & Development Specialist at CHS Inc! We got a chance to learn more about her and get an insight into the Board.

"I wanted to give back to a program that gave me so much in terms of development and helping me grow my career. I love that in being part of the alumni committee I can stay connected to the program and current students!"

🚨Gratitude Alert! Meet Lindsay Vigeant a '11 MHRIR graduate who is currently the Director Human Resources - Employee Relations at C.H. Robinson. We got a chance to hear from Lindsay about what gets her excited about the Board!

"What makes the board particularly impactful is the way it fosters meaningful connections. Whether you’re looking to learn from industry leaders, mentor the next generation of HR professionals, or simply expand your professional network, the board creates an environment where these opportunities flourish. It’s not just about staying involved with the program, but about being part of a supportive and dynamic community that values continuous learning, collaboration, and professional development."
