From Global Advances
Pain Awareness Month in September, presents an opportunity to highlight the latest therapies in Integrative Medicine for Chronic Pain Care. Integrative therapies as a first line of treatment offer proven, safe, nonpharmacologic options for millions of people living every day with chronic pain, though such therapies are not widely understood or utilized.
As a community of integrative medicine specialists, we are changing that with research, education and resources, including this Special Collection of research articles in Global Advances, journal of the Academic Consortium.

This recently released article in the New York Times, written by a physician who was trained in health coaching, shares the power of health coaching to help patients actually make lifestyle changes.
As a Co-Director of the Integrative Health Coaching program, I was especially fascinated by his personal experience of "being humbled" while transforming his ways of being and communicating in the process, something that our students comment on all the time.
His article supports utilization of the Nationally Board Certified Health and Wellness Coaches (NBC-HWCs), as well as the newly approved CPT codes for individual and group health coaching that became effective January 1, 2020.

An interesting article. If more states would adopt this approach, I wonder what healthcare might look like.
