The Biden-Harris Administration has launched an initiative called "Being Bilingual is a Superpower" to promote multilingual education and improve language programs and educators in the United States. The initiative aims to highlight the benefits and importance of bilingualism for student success, global competitiveness, and engagement. The Department of Education will host a national convening to discuss its efforts and actions in providing students with opportunities to become multilingual. Data shows that only 20% of the U.S. population speaks more than one language, emphasizing the need for bilingual education. The Department has also awarded grants to Native Hawaiian and Native American educational programs to support language and culture-based education. Resources have been released to support English learner students and their families, including translations of toolkits and an app.
