YOU ARE INVITED to the opening of PERSONAL WATERSHEDS the morning of Saturday Jun 18, 2022. Celebrate the Mississippi River and our personal connections to it. Find out more about what a watershed actually IS, and how the biggest nerve in your body is similar in surprising ways. Relax, make friends, enjoy some treats/refreshments and watch the river flow. Please RSVP if you can (link in bio), but tickets are not required.
ABOUT PERSONAL WATERSHEDS:
On view from June 18 to September 16, 2022, Personal Watersheds is an interactive fiber art exhibit and installation that celebrates the Mississippi River and our personal connections to it. The show features my personal work in fiber and video, collaborative pieces, and a working indigo dye and fiber art studio you can use all summer, all at the MWMO gallery. Try your hand at spinning fiber, weaving on a loom, felting wool, shibori binding, and dyeing with indigo. Grab a portable chair and head down to the river’s edge to craft, read or relax outdoors. The exhibit will be open to the public 6/18-9/16/2022 weekly Tues-Thurs from 9:30 am - 3pm. DM me with any questions. Additional workshops and events TBA!

It's ARTS ADVOCACY WEEK (virtually) AT THE CAPITOL! Feel free to sign the petition and reach out to legislators to support the arts!
In the Land of 10,000 Lakes, the arts unite us.
With an abundance of outstanding theaters, live music venues, museums, and galleries, Minnesota has one of the most vibrant arts scenes in the country.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the arts community has taken an unprecedented hit, with a loss of $2.2 billion in revenue.
Minnesotans attend and participate in the arts at a higher rate than other Americans and are more likely to be artists, musicians, actors, and dancers themselves.
This is our chance to come together, support the arts, and keep this part of our economy strong.
Sign the petition today! ➡️ https://bit.ly/3vLC89N

I’ve been having fun experimenting with my various indigo vats and techniques to introduce pattern. One of my vats gives sort of a dull blue and another gives almost a turquoise (though that doesn’t show very well in this picture). I have no idea why to be honest. I am learning as I go, and indigo sure lets you know that you will be a student forever :-). These are some of the 40 book covers that are going out into the world for the February 26 Weaving Water Workshop! There are still a few spaces available…sign up through the link in bio. I cannot wait to welcome Beverly Cottman, a fellow teaching arts also known as Auntie Beverly the storyteller, as the guest artist this month. Participants will receive a free book making kit including one of these covers and we will stitch books and create stories together. If you register before tomorrow morning you will still make it on the mailing list, otherwise you can arrange to pick up a kit directly from me.

So proud of my class’s abundant experimentation with fiber and organic indigo in our 7 weeks (of 8) residency Weaving Water: Indigo and Fiber Workshop for All on Shingle Creek. We’ve shared water maps and memories, made connections with each other and the Shingle Creek watershed, dipped fibers in its water and produced a beautiful display of fiber work.

Workshop #1 was so much fun today! I got just a few pix during the event, but caught up with and her sister at the end. Coming to the workshop was a surprise birthday present from Menna to Abby, who will take her Mississippi water flag with her on a big job move to Qatar in a few weeks to remember the Mississippi River ✈️. It was such a glorious couple of hours in the sunshine, binding fiber bundles, dipping in M’sippi waters, dyeing with organic indigo. Not pictured is the weft being added to the weaving. So great to see fellow artists Auntie Beverly, Amoke , Martha B. And all those the wonderful people that signed up and attended. Including a fourth grader J. skipped tae kwon do to do fiber art with his grandma😍. Water and textiles connected us into a community in just the short time we were together. Many thanks for supporting and hosting, and Minnesota artist initiative grant for the funding to engage community in my process. And huge thanks for the fresh indigo!!
