This next AHS 3004 photo drop follows along on a morning of exploring Quito’s gorgeous historic city center. We visited El Museo de la Ciudad (the Museum of the City, a site of a former hospital), and two churches - Iglesia de La Compañía de Jesús (beautifully ornate and extremely gold interior, no photos allowed inside) and Iglesia Católica San Francisco. We ended the morning with lunch on Calle La Ronda, a well known street nearby.

AHS 3004: Health in the Andes photo drop #2 📸 starts out in Agato where we learned more about Indigenous practices from a local community leader. We stayed in Otavalo (amazing hotel views!) and visited the traditional market in the morning. That afternoon we visited Hospital Asdrubal de la Torre (Centro de Salud Cotacachi) and learned about how they blend traditional indigenous health into clinical medicine to treat the population of the area. They have a garden at the hospital where they grow herbs that are used for traditional medicines. Stay tuned for more!

Photo drop #1 from AHS 3004: Health in the Andes who is in Ecuador for spring break learning about how health, animals, and the ecosystem are interconnected, as well as indigenous health practices. Our trip started in Quito where we were greeted by our on-the-ground hosts from Fundación Cimas. By day 2 we were on the road into San Clemente to visit Puyku Pamba where we took part in a traditional pamba mesa (meal) and learn about Indigenous worldviews and agricultural practices. We’ll keep sharing more as the week goes on! Be sure to follow along with one of our students, Rahma, who is posting stories on the account!
