Born Passion is a student group at the University of Minnesota that connects students with local nonprofits in need of volunteers.
With events available most weekends, students can have the chance to casually volunteer within their own schedule. Born Passion UMN's volunteer events will benefit the University community by bringing students together for a great cause. Our final event of the semester, Southeast Seniors: Rake for Seniors has been rescheduled for this weekend.
Join us this weekend in raking the yards of three local seniors who need our help in preparing for another Midwest winter!

And we’re back in action! We had lots of fun at our kickoff event for National CleanUp Day. With the help of board members Brian, Lauren, Tina, and our wonderful volunteers we were able to collect tons of waste to help keep our campus clean!

As the semester comes to a close, here is a recap of some of our volunteering events throughout the semester! We had lots of fun helping out at non-profits around the Twin Cities and met some great people along the way. With that said we would like to give a very special thank you to everyone that came out and volunteered with us! Born Passion UMN is a local organization that connects students with local non-profit organizations in need of volunteers. They have gathered a group of students and volunteered at our fall event “A Warehouse Affair” (formerly Our Harvest Table) for the last 5 years! Year after year they rolled up their sleeves and helped with the work behind the scenes - all with a smile on their faces! Their support has helped make our fall events so successful. Make am impact across the city from the comfort of your own home!
Urban Ventures is a non-profit working to break the cycle of poverty in South Minneapolis. Their mission is to empower every child through education to prepare and send each individual to post-secondary education. Urban Ventures is looking for volunteers who can record themselves reading books, so they can create a virtual library for students to read along with these recordings. A big plus too if you can also speak Spanish! Contact Sarah Spiegle at [email protected]
They’re also looking for farm help to plant seedlings so they will be able to plant in the ground around June. Urban Ventures is looking for volunteers to help on their Minneapolis and Lakeville farms to help with this process.
Volunteer Opportunities — Urban Ventures The After School program is an academic-based after-school program where students in grades 1-5 receive literacy support and homework help to stay on track in school. The program also focuses on developing character and healthy peer relationships. Support is provided in both English and Spanish.

Meals on wheels is a nonprofit delivering nutritious meals to seniors who are unable to leave their homes. Seniors are especially susceptible to the novel corona virus and have been advised to take extra precautions. As a result Meals on Wheels may continue delivery during Gov. Tim Walz’s Stay-At-Home order and is in need of on call drivers. Shifts last an hour and coordinators will try to match you up with sites near you as well as provide necessary resources to keep drivers and recipients safe.

Another day, another way (to get involved)!
Ronald McDonald House is a non-profit with locations throughout the country. They have four locations in the Twin Cities alone, the closest being right by the hospital on east bank! RMH is committed to keeping families with sick children together and near the care and resources they need. Although COVID-19 has forced them to suspend their Cooks for Kids meal program to outside volunteers, RMH still continues to feed families in this challenging time with meals prepared by their full-time staff. Ronald McDonald House is asking for financial donations in order to help cover food material costs
