Wellstone International High School students took center stage during their Senior Speech Assembly on April 10.

From a graduating class of more than 100 students, 12 gave speeches at Minneapolis College about their personal journeys to Wellstone. They came from places like Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, Ecuador and Somalia. Many were refugees and did not speak English when they arrived here, but said they found caring instructors and a path to a degree at Wellstone.

In his speech, Frank Mici said, “We are ready for the future, because we have already overcome so much. Let us use our education to make a positive impact on the world.”

Wellstone Principal Dr. Isabel Rodriguez used a Spanish expression as she urged her students to finish the school year strong. “Complete your year with a ‘broche de oro’ or ‘golden brooch,’” she said. “It means to finish something in a grand way.”
