One more post from Ms. Elissa! There is one mural in the cafeteria that is removable – it was created using illustrations and handwriting by a student named Evan Thornton, who was at our school when we first opened. Evan died of bone cancer in seventh grade and his friends and teachers made this mural in his honor and it’s been hanging in our cafeteria ever since. οΏΌ
The mural could be moved and installed on a different wall, but the timeline is tight! It’s 8’ x 16’ on a lightweight masonite. Please email Ms. Elissa if you’d be interested in taking it down and installing it somewhere else. Evan’s family would love to see it live on somewhere!

With the exciting renovations happening in our cafeteria this summer, I wanted to take a moment to remember and thank all the students who helped make our murals down in the basement. We have four mural projects we will likely lose with the construction- the students LOVED decorating that vibrant common space with imagery, identity and messages of inspiration. Here’s to hoping that our new cafeteria will have the best, healthiest food and lots of student-made artwork!
