The 2024 Superior Hiking Trail Ultimate Hike for CureSearch is in the books! It was a perfectly beautiful day to hike 26 miles through God's glory on the North Shore!

The last seven miles were especially grueling—ridiculous climbs, descents, and terrain. At one point I said aloud (I was hiking alone . . . ) "I've had enough of this!" and instantly thought of someone else who had "had enough" when David told us he didn't want to go back to the hospital after his cancer came back for the third time. After two protocols of high dose chemo, weeks of radiation, surgeries, and a stem cell transplant, there was nothing more they could do to his precious little body. He didn't go back again.

That's why this hike should be so hard. It's a reminder of what cancer children endure. One day of strenuous hiking doesn't come close . . .

Heading out in an hour for the drive up North. Remembering why I hike and looking forward to 26 miles and 11 hours, give or take, enjoying God's glorious beauty! Saw several posts in the Superior Hiking Trail group about recent mama bear with cubs sightings near where we'll be. I will appreciate your prayers for protection, safety, serenity, and supreme appreciation all along the way.

Today my beloved David would have been 31 years old, if not for rhabdomyosarcoma. Nothing will bring my son back, but CureSearch for Children's Cancer is working for a CURE so that no other child needs to suffer as he did.

I'm proud to support CureSearch as an Ultimate Hiker to raise money to fund promising, innovative children's cancer research that will save children's lives. Will you come alongside me with your support?

Another beautiful day to train for the Ultimate Hike for CureSearch for Children's Cancer—11.9 miles today! Paused to take this photo at a spot on the trail that holds a precious memory. One of my favorite photos with David was taken here, and 25 years later I still remember him every single time I pass this spot. My precious David and others like him are the reason I hike!
