ICYMI - Many of us carry around voices of doubt, criticism, and judgment that aren’t actually our own. They could be from a parent, an old boss, a friend (who turned out not to be a friend), or many others. Critical voices we have internalized rather than found a way to drown out.

In this podcast episode from our archives, Dr. Linda and Brian Schubring explore how to recognize YOUR strong inner voice, separate it from outside influences, and practice the self-compassion needed to grow into who you’re becoming.

Many of us mistake criticism, judgment, and outside expectations for our own thoughts. In this episode, Dr. Linda and Brian explore how self-compassion can help you reconnect with your authentic inner voice and grow with greater confidence.

As we prepare for Labor Day 2026, we wanted to re-share this short Labor Day reflection. These insights, inspired by the Benedictine monks’ philosophy of work, we hope will inspire you to view your work differently in the coming months. Drawing on the ancient motto Ora et Labora—“Pray and Work”—this episode explores how viewing our work as sacred, balanced, and community-driven can transform the way we lead and build team culture.

Whether you’re running a team, leading a company, or simply reevaluating your relationship with work, this episode invites you to reframe work as more than just a task—it’s a shaping force.

A job transition—especially one you didn’t choose—can shake more than your career. It can shake your sense of identity, confidence, and what comes next.

This week, we’re revisiting a conversation about three practices that can help us navigate those moments well:
1. self-compassion,
2. self-care, and
3. reaching out to the people who know us best.

Because the world is more unpredictable than ever, we think these three big ideas are worth revisiting.

As uncertainties rise, performance falls.

But uncertainty can be an invitation for us to rise to the occasion. And let's face it, uncertainty is one of the only things we can be certain about.

It can sharpen our focus, deepen connection, spark curiosity, and remind us of the Strengths and resources we already possess.

We may not get to choose the uncertainty in front of us. But we can build the clarity, confidence, and resilience to move through it—and even grow because of it.

What do you see when something isn’t working—a problem, or an invitation? 🔧

"People with the Strength of Restorative® are energized to both fix things and improve things.”

Restorative® brings a different perspective to challenges. Where others may see frustration or failure, people with this Strength often see possibility. They investigate, tinker, ask questions, and keep digging until they understand what’s really happening—and what could make it better.

Sometimes the greatest contribution isn’t creating something new. It’s "bringing new life to something that already exists."

Question: What’s something—a process, project, relationship, or system—you’ve helped restore or make better?

Can your confidence help someone else become more confident?

“Because she is strong, other people become strong too.”

That may be one of the most powerful expressions of Self-Assurance®. At its best, this Strength isn’t simply about trusting your own judgment or stepping boldly into a challenge. It’s about creating confidence in others—helping people recognize their own capacity to step forward, take a risk, and face what feels difficult.

💬 Question: Who has believed in you in a way that helped you become more confident in yourself?

🎧️ NEW! S09EP32 - In September 2017, we launched the Leadership Vision Podcast with a simple question: What is Leadership Vision?

At the time, much of our work centered on StrengthsFinder and a belief that knowing your Top 5 Strengths was only the beginning. The real value came from understanding the behaviors behind those Strengths, seeing how they showed up in relationships, and using that understanding to help people and teams work better together.

We also believed something that continues to shape our work today:

That, "people are best understood in relationship with others."

Teams can become places where we see ourselves more clearly, learn to appreciate the unique contributions of others, and build cultures where people can thrive.

A lot has changed since we recorded this first episode. Our language has evolved, our work has expanded, and our understanding of people, teams, and organizational culture has deepened.

But listening back, many of the questions that started this podcast are still the questions we're exploring today.

In 2017, much of our work was about helping people better understand themselves and one another through Strengths. As we look toward the next chapter of Leadership Vision, we're focusing our work around four elements we believe strengthen both performance and well-being: Clarity, Alignment, Resilience, and Engagement.

This was one of our favorite conversations from the past year—and one worth revisiting.

We all carry things with us: old stories, expectations, assumptions, even versions of ourselves that may no longer serve us.

So here’s the question: What are you still carrying that it might be time to let go of?

🎧 This week, we’re rebroadcasting one of our favorite Leadership Vision podcast episodes from 2026. Listen here https://buff.ly/ltwVrjo

RE_BROADCAST: What happens when we make the puddle bigger than it really is?

Sometimes the obstacle in front of us isn’t actually impassable—we’ve just convinced ourselves that it is. And as leaders, that perspective can quickly influence everyone around us.

This week, we’re revisiting a Leadership Vision conversation about limiting beliefs, perspective, Zen, and recognizing that sometimes "there really is a way around."

NEW! S09EP32 - Originally released in 2017, the very first episode of the Leadership Vision Podcast explored who we were, what we believed, and how Strengths shaped our work with people, teams, and cultures. Nearly nine years later, we're revisiting where we started—and looking ahead to how our work is evolving around Clarity, Alignment, Resilience, and Engagement.
