For a decade, we have elevated the voices of students and families in policymaking, championed the passage and implementation of the READ Act, opened new pathways to teacher licensure, fought for inclusive discipline practices, and advanced college and career readiness for Minnesota kids. And we couldn’t have done it without partners and community members by our side.

EdAllies is proud to celebrate the launch of our Youth Advisory Council. The Council brings together fourteen young, emerging advocates to inform the work of a state-level education advocacy nonprofit, while building skills to be an effective changemaker.

Councilmembers will learn about key education policy issues up for debate at the Minnesota Capitol, provide feedback on EdAllies’ policy agenda from a student lens, and advocate for student-centered change.

We can't wait to spotlight their progress as the Council continues. Stay tuned!

Courtney and Andre talk candidly about gender bias in custody and advocacy spaces, the cultural disconnect many Black and Brown families experience with teachers and service providers, and the emotional weight of raising children with disabilities without a built-in support system.
