Right now a community we partner with, Brooklyn Center, needs our support and solidarity. After the killing of Daunte Wright by Brooklyn Center police on Sunday, April 11, Brooklyn Center Community Schools and community members organized to support students and their families to offer services and other supports.

Per the district, we can help students, families, and the community at this moment, both locally and from afar, by making a contribution to the Student and Family Support Fund. Please consider showing your support today.

For those who were unable to physically assist with item donations to our community but still want to help, there is a GoFundMe campaign for monetary donations. Donations will be used to purchase essential items and food, as well as support housing needs for any families in need in the Brooklyn Center community.

In Minneapolis, we are grieving the brutal murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officers. This tragedy in our community and the murder and marginalization of black and brown people in communities throughout the country is the result of police brutality rooted in white supremacy.

Vega and Instruments in the Cloud exist to support teachers and community in making music accessible to all students. In order for Vega and Instruments in the Cloud to pursue this mission and work, we must do the work to dismantle all forms of racism in our education system and other systems.

The first step in our work is always to listen, and to learn from and consider what teachers and community take time to tell us.

The next step is to act – to examine the immediate and systemic barriers that keep all students from having equitable access to music and to education.

As an integral part of our work, we commit to supporting teachers who are engaging their students by providing culturally relevant curriculum and amplifying the work of partner organizations led by people of color.
